certainthings: (Spongebob quote [about me])

A bit ago, there was a thing floating around my end of tumblr that said, "Reblog if you've ever cried over the death of a fictional character."

... Which. What? Are there people who haven't?

Have you never not cried over the death of a fictional character? Do you know anyone who hasn't?

Hell, I've cried over characters that I didn't even care about.

I think the worst one (so far) has been Warrick's death (CSI). I cried so so fucking much over his. And whenever they mention him on the show, even if it's just, 'I once had a partner...' I cry.

Every. Single. Time.

So. If you have ever cried because a fictional character died - Who was the worst for you?

Jeeze, now I'm crying. Thanks Michelle.

I cried over Sirius Black and Fred Weasley.
I also cried over Ian from Jurassic Park.

Yes, people don't cry. My friend never cries over a fictional character. I think it's because she wasn't as emotionally invested/involved in said character?

Huh. I believe that one day your friend will cry over a character.

Oh god, that's a hard, hard question. I don't actually remember which one death I've cried the worst over. I've cried so much at many fictional deaths.

I know I cried buckets when SPN's Sam (season2 & season5) & Bobby (not Ghost Bobby but Bobby in the hospital) died.

I cried at OTH's Keith & Quinton's funerals. Then damn it all to hell, I cried a lot when Dan freaking died (I think because of who showed up.).

I also cried when Dawson's Creek Jen died and especially when she made that video.

I cried when Papa Kent on Smallville died.

I cried when Doyle died on Angel, then again when Fred died and yet again when Wes died.

*I think I need a tissue.*

Oh, God. One Tree Hill. I think I cried over all the deaths. I was sobbing mess when they were walking up the hill to Jimmy's funeral and I didn't even really care about him.

And yeah, I also cried when Dan died.

I used to be a non cryer. I would get wibbly but not real tears. Then (and this is going to show my age) Billy died in the courtroom on professing his love to Ally McBeal and I lost it. I held it together again until Buffy killed Angel and then all bets were off.

My daughter lost her shit when Cordelia dies on Angel. When she came out of her coma and kicked ass and then we find out she never really woke up? Yeah, my daughter cried for a good solid 20 minutes. I was starting to get worried.

The worst one was actually just this year. I lost my father just over a year ago. He got sick and died withing three months. We had to take him off life support and I held his hand and watched him die and it was fucking awful. Fast forward to 9 months later and I am watching Grey's Anatomy and they have to pull the plug on Mark Sloan and watch him die. My daughter and I were watching it together and we literally had to pause the dvr and take a 20 minute break because we were sobbing so hard.

So I have progressed from a hard hearted bitch to a big cry baby over the years! ;)

"There's a new man in town." :)

Every now and then I randomly think of that. It's the only bit of the song I remember that was played at Billy's funeral. And I also cried a whole lot when Billy died.

:hugs you:

Oh man, that was the WORST. I'd been spoiled for it so I knew it was coming but I still bawled like a baby.

Ugh, WAAAAAAAAAASH in Serenity. I think that was the most I cried and I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS COMING.

I don't know why Warrick's was the worst for me, I mean ... I didn't cry the hardest over him but I have cried the longest over him. I'm still mourning his death.

I keep forgetting that Wash died. :/

Jake Chambers from Stephen King's Dark Tower series. And he fucking died twice. The first time wasn't so bad because it was early on and we hadn't gotten to know him, but then he comes back from his parallel universe and I grew up with him and just, his second death made me sob like a baby. Every time I think about it I just want to punch Stephen King in the face. (But gently, he's old.)

You know, I think Stephen King would understand it if you punched him in the face.

Thanks alot. :P

- Worst film ever for me is Remember Me. I bawl like a moron every damn time. That's my favorite movie though. And I fucking knew the ending before hand and I sit through the entire film sometimes and cry. That film is/ those characters are IMO the epitome if character development done right.

- Never Let Me Go. 5 straight minutes. Gut punch.

- I haven't cried over Breaking Bad but IF Jesse Pinkman dies? I will be BAWLING my head off

- I've read Gwen's death in the comics and if it gets put on film? I will be the only one making ugly crying noises in the theater. I have at my iPad while reading and just gahhhh.

- I think I might have at Looper, Harry Potter, Big Love, OTH. Book wise? I ugly cried at The Fault In Our Stars. Also I don't know where it came from but holy crap, I watched some weird 90's flick with Joaquin Phoenix and lost it when he was screaming he wanted to live on his way to die. I suspect that's why I got weepy during The Master.

I still haven't seen those films, but I really should. One day. One day.

Sometimes I feel like I am the only who hasn't read any John Green books.

Wash from Firefly/Serenity. When he died in Serenity I gasped out loud and then cried for so long that I had to pause the movie because I couldn't see it through my tears/comprehend what was happening.

Also, I cried a bit when Sherlock jumped off St Bart's Hospital in Sherlock. But that quickly turned around into me whispering "you little shit" at the tv screen 2.5mins later at the end of episode reveal.

Awww. I actually keep forgetting that he died.

Hahaha.

Oh, so many. Let's do the obvious ones first:

HP: Sirius, Dobby, Dumbledore, Hedwig (fucking HEDWIG, JKR? THAT WAS JUST MEAN), Fred, Tonks and Remus... bawl fest.

Buffy: Joyce, Angel, Buffy, TARAAAAAAAA.

Serenity: Wash. Still not over it.

Merlin: Uther, Arthur, Balinor, Freya (the boat scene with Freya is my all time fave Merlin moment but it still kills me).

I think the worst is cartoons for me. Up.... god, I've still only watched that once because I just can't with the begining. I also always have a quiet weep when Diego 'dies' in Ice Age ("because that's what you do in a herd" TEARING UP THINKING ABOUT IT).

OH GOD ICE AGE. The first time I saw it, I was all wibbly at Diego's death, and then they have to give back the baby and he does the "where's the baby" and I SAW DIEGO AND JUST LOST IT. My brother wasn't sure whether to feel bad for me or laugh.

Glad it's not just me.

I also get a bit emotional every time I watch Monsters Inc when Boo goes back and then Mike puts her door back together and his hands are all splintered. Such a giant sap.

The beginning of Up is one of the worst things ever. It's kind of amazing how they can fit so much into 10 minutes.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY KILLED WARRICK?!?!?!?!!?!?

The utter worst for me was either SPOILER in Code Name Verity or Albert Brooks in <>My First Mister. My very first weepy character death was Goose in Top Gun.

Why must you make me admit my weakness?

Ugh. I was sloppy hysterical when Bobby died (the first time--not the ghost) there were vows of "Never again!" and "I'm so done!" made. Clearly I didn't keep them, but I still can't think of Bobby without getting wibbly.

I cried when Dobby and Dumbledore died in the book.

I sobbed for days at random points over Songmaster. First book that I was nearly inconsolable over.

When Charlie drowned in LOST.

"I am a leaf on the wind." Motherfucking Wash. God.

Um. I NEVER watch movies/read books that have animals as the main characters because I'll fucking fall apart.

There are probably others, but these are the ones that stick with me.

I'm sorry?

A few people have mentioned Wash's death. "I am a leaf on the wind" is a great quote.

I have cried a lot more over fictional things than I have over real (as in, happened to me) things. The worst is when it's a shock. I would say equal intensity: Tara (BtVS), Fred (Angel) and Owen Harper (Torchwood). In all those cases it wasn't just crying, it was two or more days of deep grieving.

Ianto Jones.

I also cried over a character in Law and Order: SVU even though I don't think she actually died. She was a transgendered teenage girl, and she killed someone who was going to reveal to her boyfriend that she was "actually a guy." (I think it was unintentional; she punched him, he fell, and he hit his head and died of a brain injury.) Anyway, long story short, she was put into a male prison (being over 18) and was severely assaulted. Last scene is them carrying her out on a stretcher. I bawled.

Life as a House. First, it's an emotional roller coaster to begin with. Second, I like Kevin Kline, and he plays his character so damn well. So when he dies - terminal cancer, gets his family back, builds a freakin' house with said family and friends - I bawled like a baby the first time I watched it. Not wibbly tears, I'm talking full-on weeping to the point of breathlessness.

Even now, having seen the movie multiple times, I STILL cry like a baby at the end of this film.

tbh, the only thing I remember about Life as a House is how damn good Hayden Christensen looked.

LOL and I had the total opposite reaction, maybe because of HC's character's age in the movie. I teach kids that age and, well....I don't think "ew" is a strong enough word. Heh.

I was quite literally WAILING when John Winchester died. It was late at night when I watched it and I had to hold a pillow over my mouth during the scene. When it was over I went into the downstairs bathroom with said pillow and continued to wail. I mean, heart wrenching sobs of grief, not for John really but more for Sam & Dean. I don't cry over ANY SPN deaths anymore though, not even when the boys die, because they just come right back most of the time.

I really can cry at the drop of a hat though so many deaths get me. I barely watch CSI but I saw the episode you're talking about and cried like a baby over it.

I never cried over John's death because I honestly believed that it wasn't actually real. I thought it was all part of a plan and that he would be back.
