You know, I could have lived with it if it had been a couple of times. Or maybe if it was spelled "D." But none of this "De" shit. Unless Sam has Dean confused with him, and if so he'd better not let on to Dean, because he will be very offended.

I've seen "De" in a couple of stories of late, and started wondering if I'd missed something, somewhere. A memo, or whatever. Then I decided it didn't matter; I don't like it (I have Issues with nicknames anyway, unless they're canon), I'm not going to use it, and if I run into it again, it's not likely to be an author I enjoy reading anyway. Heh.

I live in New Zealand, here we tend to shorten ANYTHING. And sometimes re-lengthen. So Sharon= Shazza, Marian = Mazza, Gary= Gazza. And I'm Greta and get called "G" a lot. Hm. But Dean as De... no I don't really buy it. They just don't seem like that sorta family, for some reason, which is weird, because Sam gets Sammy a lot. *shrugs*

I think calling someone by the first letter of their name can be a valid nickname, although I think the results are usually kinda yucky.

Makes me wonder if the people who are writing it come from nickname-heavy cultures. Dean doesn't seem like the type that would really like being called a nickname, though, except maybe by John. And since they're Americans they're not coming from the nickname-heavy culture you're talking about, either.

But yeah, a little ridiculous. I'm guessing you were reading the same fic as I was that went up earlier today where it was the only thing Sam called Dean, and it was way too much. Even Dean only calls Sam "Sammy" sometimes, usually when he's worried or trying to annoy him.
