I was wondering if anyone else was as annoyed with that nickname as I am. It seem rather ridiculous to shorten a one-syllable name.

I live in New Zealand, here we tend to shorten ANYTHING. And sometimes re-lengthen. So Sharon= Shazza, Marian = Mazza, Gary= Gazza. And I'm Greta and get called "G" a lot. Hm. But Dean as De... no I don't really buy it. They just don't seem like that sorta family, for some reason, which is weird, because Sam gets Sammy a lot. *shrugs*

Makes me wonder if the people who are writing it come from nickname-heavy cultures. Dean doesn't seem like the type that would really like being called a nickname, though, except maybe by John. And since they're Americans they're not coming from the nickname-heavy culture you're talking about, either.

Yeah, clearly Supernatural isn't set in NZ. Otherwise they'd be driving a MarkII Zephyr or maybe a Toyota Corolla and listening to Crowded House, and they'd drive the entire length of the country EVERY episode, running out of haunted places pretty damn smartly, I think :D It wouldn't be NEARLY so sexy.

I think Dean would hate nicknames. Except maybe on the odd occasion if John called him "champ" or something. Dean is a GIVER of nicknames, because it keeps people in their place. Ie, Sammy. Because he's the little brother, and Dean doesn't want him to forget that. Ahaha I could ponder that for hours.
