Walked down the street to a local hairdresser/spa type place. Said, I'd like my hair cut, please.

All right, they said. It'll be a few minutes.

How much do you want off, she asked.

A few inches, I replied.

Then several minutes later, a lot more than a few inches was gone.

Ugh.

I mean, my hair needed it. It was all dry and split-endy. And I don't think it looks bad. However, it's a lot shorter than I wanted it.

I just, I don't understand why they do that. Every time. No matter where you go. A couple/few inches turns into several inches.

Ehh.

At least it'll grow back.

I'm lucky, my sister cuts my hair. I know where she lives so she knows not to screw up my hair. :D

Every time. No matter where you go.

UGH THIS. I've pretty much gotten to the point where I cut my own hair, though oftentimes I wonder if it looks ok when I do it. Plus it misses the deep conditioning treatment my stylist used to give me. But she refuses to do it without also cutting my hair, and she's not getting anywhere near my hair with scissors ever again I will keep those inches thank you.

it's the reason why i very rarely go and get my hair cut, also it's really expensive these days. i usually go to my friend and she's pretty good at not cutting it too short.

That's what I always say when I cut my hair. At least it'll grow back if I don't like it.
Though I am in the process of growing my hair out. It's the longest it's been since high school.

It's uh... probably 5 or so inches past my shoulders? Well, wet and combed out. I've kept my hair around shoulder length for years, so this is a big adjustment.

You really have to be specific about hair inches because their a few is never the same as your a few. Maybe next time give them a limit, like "no more than three inches" because if they go overboard, at least you can yell at them and ask for a refund or something (like maybe your next cut is free).

i'm going to have to start doing this. even if it makes me uncomfortable. because seriously. she took too much, dammit.

I used to hate doing it too, but enough is just enough. Sometimes I tell them to cut off even less (like I say 1 inch when I really want 3 inches off) because I know they get too enthusiastic about styling, so the final cut is where I want it to be. Depends on how well you know your hair stylist/barber person though. And I feel like this is less of an issue if you get an expensive haircut, but I'm cheap and don't like paying for a simple cut.

Oh, jeez. How much did they cut off? :(

What the hell is with hairdressers not being able to listen??

i'm not sure how much. but before, if my hair was wet and combed out straight (it's a bit curly) it was mid to lower back. and now it's just past my shoulders.

i honestly don't know. but i would like to know

I have the opposite problem where I can never get them to cut off as much as I want. It's like
"I want it really short"
"Are you SURE?"
"Yes."
"OK *cuts off 2 inches* how's this?"
"Please cut off 5 more inches"
"OK *cuts off 1 inch* what do you think? *looks very nervous*"
etc..

cut my damn hair! i know it's curly and pretty but there is so much of it, it has to go.

Before my regular hairdresser, I used to ask to see each hairdresser's version of "an inch." Because it ranges from about 1/2 inch to 1 3/4 inches, and a "few" of those bigger ones is a lot!

Sorry for the atrocity. :(

I see good advice ^ so I'll commiserate and :/ with you. Scissor wielding people seem to have an awful lot of power over many a person's happiness.
