Went out for Chinese food with my aunt and a couple of her friends. There was a monk there (my aunt knew him from somewhere, not sure where - said that his name was Brother John), I was up getting some food and he was there beside me and said "Those are good, aren't they?" I said, 'Yes.'  ... So, now. Now, I've been blessed. *nods* Because when a monk (and/or a nun) speak to you it TOTALLY counts as being blessed.  Okay, so maybe it doesn't but I'm saying it does.

Brother John was wearing a white robe, which on tv and in the movies they always seem to be wearing brown ones. I kind of wonder what the difference is.

I think it depends what order of monk you are. Cappuchin monks always wear brown. It's the same Italian root word as we have for Cappuchin (I may be spelling that wrong) monkeys (also brown) and cappuccino (the coffee). I think Franciscans also wear brown, Dominicans wear grey and evil tv monks wear black. I'm thinking white might be more ceremonial because it sounds kind of very impractical for day to day. Especially if you're clumsy with the chopsticks. White robe with dumpling stains doesn't sound that awesome. :D
