All these years later, I STILL remember that bizarre piece of dialogue. \o/

Date: 2008-01-30 10:45 pm (UTC)That dialogue was in the last episode. The show got preemptorily cancelled mid-season (back when that didn't happen all the time!), and so the writers just bailed out on any semblance of continuing the story arc and went straight for the crack \o/
It was the police chief (Ronnie Cox) and his next-in-command talking, and it made the viewer immediately think, "Wait-- when was the dream-sequence part? I want to see that now!"
