Paypal and Ebay
Apr. 12th, 2012 04:20 pmDo you have a Paypal account?
Do you like it?
Have you had any problems with it?
Also with Paypal can you use a debit card instead of a credit card?
Do you shop on eBay?
Have you had a lot of luck with it?
Have you ever been ripped off?
Sometimes I think I'd like to use these things. But. I just. I just don't know if I trust things.

Date: 2012-04-12 11:24 pm (UTC)I have used eBay before as well, never been ripped off. But I'm pretty careful about what I buy on eBay and I always read reviews on all the sellers. I never buy from anyone who only has a few reviews, or has rating below 90%. I don't use eBay much anymore though because I just can't be arsed to check on bidding, etc.

Date: 2012-04-13 12:42 am (UTC)I have been using EBay for years, though I don't use it often. I did have a problem on EBay once, but that had nothing to do with PayPal, except that I waited too long to dispute the transaction so I was SOL.
I like PayPal because I do not have a credit card. The main reason I bought books through Kobo instead of Amazon was that Amazon doesn't take PayPal and Kobo does.

Date: 2012-04-13 01:34 am (UTC)I used to use eBay quite often, but when I have, it's been almost 100 percent flawless. But I take the time to research the vendors I'm purchasing from (reading the buyer feedback, etc.) before I purchase anything, so that helps.

Date: 2012-04-13 01:48 am (UTC)I use Paypal for that and a lot of other things online. Never had any issues with it, though it's a little frustrating sometimes how slow it can be to transfer funds to a paypal account or from paypal to a bank account. And yes, I have my paypal hooked up through my debit card/bank account.
Fun fact, one of the guys who invented paypal is now working as an independent rocket scientist so...yeah.

Date: 2012-04-13 03:12 am (UTC)More and more sites are accepting paypal as a form of payment so people don't have to put their cc info online. I use it whenever it's accepted. It's great and it only costs if you are the seller.
Ebay can be a goldmine for just about anything you need from a button to a car. The key is reading seller feedback. Look for duration as a seller, high rating (I won't use anyone with less than 98%), and number of transactions. You don't want a seller who has a 100% rating but has only sold 5 items. Ebay has a fantastic system of checks and balances for problem transactions. They will mediate on your behalf if necessary and the unhappy buyer is usually going to get results.

Date: 2012-04-13 05:37 am (UTC)As for eBay, I have been using it in my teen years to buy merchandise and was never ripped off once. You just have to check people's feedback on their page. I usually never buy from anybody who has less than 96-98% when they've already sold a lot of things. I'm just too paranoid, lol. But I never had problems before.
