I really don't understand what was wrong with the original format. Did someone give them a bunch of cheesy fantasy fiction paperbacks? Is that what happened?
I mentioned before that CSI (the original) has been doing the same thing for 11 God damn years and it's still a good show ... it makes NO sense that Supernatural had to go and change. I feel that in the first season and perhaps a little of the second season Supernatural was very similar to CSI, only it was with literal monsters/demons. :shrugs: I think that if they (Supernatural) had just kept on keeping on, the show would still be pretty fantastic and not ... whatever the fuck it is now. :stops ramble:
Maybe that is what happened OR the writers are actual fanfic writers.
Excellent point. X-Files managed to do Monster-of-the-Week shit for years and remained interesting. And there are SO MANY stories and pieces of folklore and such they could have milked for episodes. I mean, they had this big, whomping pile of creative/creepy potential and they threw it out the window in favor of the same old boring Judeo-Christian crap that's already been done to death. I mean, we finally get past the hell/heaven crap and we get saddled with purgatory. YAWN.
At this point, since all of the good writers left for other stuff like True Blood and Mad Men, the writers probably ARE all ficcers. And bad ones at that.
Maybe we should send them some sort of letter. Like, 'Hey look at these shows. Look at their formats. And then notice how well they did / are doing. Now look at your show.'
I am sad to say that in my less sober moments I have contemplated it. Because I've been unemployed so long now that I take these things way too seriously.
