keyboard help and icons

I hit a key or a combination and now I have É instead of a question mark.

How do I get the question mark back.

Please help.

I know pressing SHIFT+CTRL makes my keyboard switch back and forth between language settings on said keyboard. :)

Thanks, maybe that's what I hit. I dunno, it seemed to fix itself.
