Even though I don't know how I feel about this show I am going to be really spammy about it.



So, Dean said (and this is slightly paraphrased) "I only went to them (Lisa and Ben) because you told me to!" or perhaps he said, "because you asked me to!"

... WHAT? Like, seriously that is the ONLY REASON Dean's there now? Or well, that's the only reason he started out there? No, but seriously seriously?

If Sam had said to him, 'I want you to poke yourself in the eye and ride a horse off a cliff' Dean would have done that?

I get that Dean's got issues but not that long ago when Sam said to him, 'I think we should split up.' he was all fine with that AND ... what? Did we miss all the phone calls Dean made asking Sam what he should do every moment? Or is it just for big moments (the ones that even if you see 'em coming you're not ready for them) that he asked Sam.

I do not understand this show and it's logic at all.

eta: When Buffy died, all she told Dawn to do was "live" ... why couldn't Sam say the same? And okay, maybe I'd get if Dean went there for a bit to stay there for a year? I don't know.

I honestly think the answer to that question would be yes because I think Dean will do WHATEVER Sam says, irregardless of consequence, without thinking of himself because to Dean, Sam is all that matters. Even dead.

I thought that when Sam fell in the hole, Dean was just distraught and rudderless and would have spent the rest of his short life trying to get himself killed, but he'd made that promise to Sam.
But Sam obviously MADE him make that promise because he thought it was something that Dean could live with, a chance for him, if you like, and as it turns out, it WAS something that Dean could live with.
And having done that, even if Dean would like to go with Sam, he's got a new commitment/responsibility to seeing Lisa and Ben are all right. So he's TORN. I really hope they don't kill Lisa and Ben. That would SUCK. But if they don't I'm not sure how they're going to get the SamnDean dynamic back.

But then, Sam seems very demonic/angelic/PTSD. So we need Sam back before we can get SamnDean back.

I'm not sure how I feel about the show either but I'm enjoying thinking about it!

This was the first episode where I just couldn't handle their "logic". I mean I could understand it if Dean had been there for a week and Sam returns and Dean's like "I'm just here because of you."

But he stayed a whole fucking year just because Sam said so. and then he's pouting a whole episode just to tell sam that ... no he has to stay with them because... I don't even know why.

The writing is just SO BAD. I can see Dean doing that but from a story point of view its just really dumb because whatever happens now it's either Dean is an asshole or so cliché because another girlfriend has to be killed off so that Dean can go and play with his brother.

I really don't know why they put in the whole year later thing :(

Anyway, I maintain my view that Lisa is a shitty parent, the people who came up with the whole Dean + Single Mother storyline did not ask any single mothers what they might think of the whole thing, and the entire thing sucked ass.

And when Dean leaves and Ben has to deal with that, it's going to be one less reason to like the direction the show has headed in and one more reason to dislike Dean.

That's the fundamental problem of Dean as a person/character - he hasn't made very many of his own decisions in his life. At least MAJOR decisions. He didn't have to listen to Sam, but he did. He took orders. Like the good soldier he was brought up to be. Like John himself had told him to get thee to a nunnery one night stand with some kid which may or may not be yours. Sam didn't do that to him, he did it to himself by not making his own choices.

I saw someone reference "What is and what should never be" in regards to this question. It was all about what Dean wished hadn't happened (mom hadn't died), what he wished for himself (to be out of hunting, on his way to his apple pie family, etc) and what everyone else wanted for him too. Dean is in serious denial about wanting that for himself. That's all I got.

I'll try to find the link if you're interested. It's good stuff. Even includes research and actual quotes from the episode!

Eta: oh! One of the things was that Dean said he wanted to stay so bad.

I took that early S5 separation as Dean still being all betrayed and hurt, and finding it easier to bear by not having Sam around him for a while. But by the time Sam made him promise, they were making up, then the epic love saved the day, and Dean had hearts in his eyes and basically, yes, when they're good with each other, he will do whatever Sam asks.
