Mpreg fiction
Jun. 10th, 2008 11:17 pmFor those that dislike/hate/loathe mpreg fiction in whatever fandom you read in, do you just hate written mpreg fiction? Or do also dislike/hate/loathe movies like Junior. What about the tv show Alien Nation where the men would give birth? Or is that different because they were aliens? How about the episode of the Cosby Show where all the men were pregnant and gave birth to weird things like sandwiches and a blimp of orange soda? And I think a model boat was involved too. Sure, it was a dream but still. Mpreg.
Can I ASK anymore questions? Apparently, yes.

Date: 2008-06-11 06:23 am (UTC)To answer, I'm not fond of pregnancy as a fanfic trope full stop, male or female. Because it's all about ME, and pregnancy is not something I identify with, and also I don't really like kids. That said, I'm not morally outraged by it or anything and I've read a couple in various fandoms that I've really enjoyed. *g*

Date: 2008-06-11 06:41 am (UTC)And no, Junior didn't bother me because it was a ridiculous comedy and because it wasn't about a gay relationship. LET THE GAY MEN BE GAY MEN. DO NOT GIVE THEM A WOMB PLEASE.
ANYWAY, it doesn't bother me anymore because it's less prevalent, and also because

Date: 2008-06-11 06:47 am (UTC)But I do love fic where my favorite characters have children, so if that happens because of assbabies...whatever. But that in and of itself is weird now that I think about it, me reading fic about my favorite characters having babies - not the assbabies part, because *I* don't want any kids of my own, period. Kids are great, so long as they're not waking me up or making me pay attention to them when I could be reading about assbabies on the internet.

Date: 2008-06-11 07:09 am (UTC)It's the mpreg birthing process that makes me run the other way.
Especially when assbabies and/or mysterious manginas suddenly appear.

Date: 2008-06-11 08:31 am (UTC)Except aliens, because the creepiness there is probably more about the alien factor than the man factor. Heh.

Date: 2008-06-11 11:21 am (UTC)Writers should concentrate on the emotional aspects than the medical ones because they tend to fuck them up.
Having said that, the same rule will apply to any other movie/story/tv show, etc.

Date: 2008-06-11 11:45 am (UTC)I was traumatized because I once read fics where men were "womanized" while pregnant. It was completely ridiculous. The pregnant man was crying over every little thing and was weakened and submissive.
Something so female just shouldn't be applied to a man. Plus, I know that not all women become weak and submissive when pregnant. In fact, I have never heard of that phenomenon at all.
And I know that the author (a particularly bad one) used mpreg to emphasize the dom/sub part of the relationship. She probably enjoys and fantasizes about it a lot. But it's just not the way it should be.
I'm sure that there are a lot of writers out there who got mpreg right but I'm just scarred from the whole thing. Now, it doesn't matter if the author is someone I know is good. I won't read the mpreg, assbaby or no.
