For those that dislike/hate/loathe mpreg fiction in whatever fandom you read in, do you just hate written mpreg fiction? Or do also dislike/hate/loathe movies like Junior. What about the tv show Alien Nation where the men would give birth? Or is that different because they were aliens? How about the episode of the Cosby Show where all the men were pregnant and gave birth to weird things like sandwiches and a blimp of orange soda? And I think a model boat was involved too. Sure, it was a dream but still. Mpreg.

Can I ASK anymore questions? Apparently, yes.

Oooh. NOW I SEE.

To answer, I'm not fond of pregnancy as a fanfic trope full stop, male or female. Because it's all about ME, and pregnancy is not something I identify with, and also I don't really like kids. That said, I'm not morally outraged by it or anything and I've read a couple in various fandoms that I've really enjoyed. *g*

Also, Junior? Did not like, but that probably has more to do with my fear of Ahnold than anything else. ;)

I'm not like ZOMG AGAINST IT or anything, it's just not something I get into. I think because (in fic) it interferes with the manliness of the manly men I'm reading about. Oh noes, does that make me sexist? ;p

I remember really enjoying that episode of the Cosby Show, however.

I don't have any problem with it morally, it's for me that it's usually so poorly done. And as a result of that, I avoid it as best I can. There's occasionally one that I'll find that I can read and enjoy, but it's usually as rec.

It used to bug me because we're writing about men and they should be allowed to be men. It seems so bizarre to me to take something so fundamentally female and apply it to a guy - if you want to write about someone getting pregnant, why don't you write about a woman? I don't know. The whole idea that the point of romance and sex is procreation is just so archaic to me.

And no, Junior didn't bother me because it was a ridiculous comedy and because it wasn't about a gay relationship. LET THE GAY MEN BE GAY MEN. DO NOT GIVE THEM A WOMB PLEASE.

ANYWAY, it doesn't bother me anymore because it's less prevalent, and also because [livejournal.com profile] memphis86 is brilliant.

I do not have strong feelings about assbabies. I will read about assbabies if it is rec'd to me, but I generally find hollywood's version of assbabies to be stupid and contrived and sexist [omg, look at this dude who is learning what it's like to be a WOMAN because giving birth is what it MEANS to be a WOMAN...whatever].

But I do love fic where my favorite characters have children, so if that happens because of assbabies...whatever. But that in and of itself is weird now that I think about it, me reading fic about my favorite characters having babies - not the assbabies part, because *I* don't want any kids of my own, period. Kids are great, so long as they're not waking me up or making me pay attention to them when I could be reading about assbabies on the internet.

:)

For me, it's not the mpreg that squicks me out.
It's the mpreg birthing process that makes me run the other way.
Especially when assbabies and/or mysterious manginas suddenly appear.

For me, that's easy: yep, mpreg creeps me out irrespective of the medium. --;

Except aliens, because the creepiness there is probably more about the alien factor than the man factor. Heh.

Um.. I usually automatically stay away from any fic by unknown author that contains pregnancy, babies, young children, references to parenting... not because I am in any way against those things happening to fictional characters of any gender, but because I dislike the way most people write it, with extreme overload of endearments and the standard approach of "doctor knows best" and ultrasounds and hospitals, and "birth is horribly painful", and then cribs/formula/daycare... I am a fan of non-standard approach to things, and lots of thought given to "why" and "what's really best" and not a fan of incessant cooing *shrug*

I think people that write mpreg are evil. Cast out those devils from yon fandom.

I am such a bitch.

Well, I dislike MOST MPREG because it's SO unrealistic. You want to write it then do the research. No, you don't start having swollen ankles in your second week, going into labor after week 36 is not early or risky at all. No, your emotions aren't so wacky that you'll cry every 2 seconds. In fact most of the times, you will live a normal, healthy life. Hell I was better during my pregnancies than at other times. However most MPREG turn into major drama for no reason.

Writers should concentrate on the emotional aspects than the medical ones because they tend to fuck them up.

Having said that, the same rule will apply to any other movie/story/tv show, etc.

My reason for not wanting mpreg:

I was traumatized because I once read fics where men were "womanized" while pregnant. It was completely ridiculous. The pregnant man was crying over every little thing and was weakened and submissive.

Something so female just shouldn't be applied to a man. Plus, I know that not all women become weak and submissive when pregnant. In fact, I have never heard of that phenomenon at all.

And I know that the author (a particularly bad one) used mpreg to emphasize the dom/sub part of the relationship. She probably enjoys and fantasizes about it a lot. But it's just not the way it should be.

I'm sure that there are a lot of writers out there who got mpreg right but I'm just scarred from the whole thing. Now, it doesn't matter if the author is someone I know is good. I won't read the mpreg, assbaby or no.

The idea is so outrageous that you have to go in knowing it's going to be ridiculous. It's CRACK, man. Go with the flow.
