A friend I know who's big into horror pointed me to the Slash Film Festival. They premiere a lot of independent horror films in that vein: http://slashfilmfestival.com/. Also, she made the comment about "Slash Fiction" mimicking Pulp Fiction's title. So ... I think it's that they're fucking with fandom but playing on the old horror genre term with the subject matter of the episode.
