I feel like...because it was only Alona that they brought in, it didn't really have a point. If this had been a real, all-out "let's get into Dean's guilt" fest it might've worked better but the fact that Amy - y'know, from THE LAST EPISODE - wasn't there (even when Sam wasn't) felt bizarre. And since Sam DIDN'T find out about Dean killing Amy and since he DIDN'T, like, force an intervention on him or something it was just like "what?"
And okay, fine. We've established that Sam's feeling all enlightened & shit (he finished demon blood AA, Dean's an alcoholic!) and Dean is a mess and that still kinda makes sense buuuuuut what was the point of this episode? Instead of making any forward progress in the narrative they just kinda stated the obvious.
