I've been rewatching the whole thing (had my foot operated, long story) so most things are so fresh I can actually reply with some certainty! In "In the Beginning" Castiel tells Dean that yeah, he hadn't deloreaned him to change stuff, but that now he knew what they (heaven) did, and sort of implied "pity YED has read the Evil Overlord rules". When Sam first meets Cas, he fangirls al over him, Cas shakes his hand with both of his and calls him the kid with the demon's blood. So yeah, not an auspicious start. I guess in the 70 or so days Cas hasn't been on the show he went to the sassy_otp community and got the memo Sam isn't bad, just misunderstood, and perhaps he figured he's got an in with Dean is Sam helps him? Either that or he's angling for a Winchester sandwich, to which I say, God speed, Cas.
