schmeta

I don't read a lot of meta when it comes to Supernatural or any show really because, wow, it's really wordy (most of the time). And who has the time for that? And thinky thought words at that too. Ouch. Plus, the few times when I do read it, it always seems to be about how Shiny and Perfect Dean Winchester is and booo to that shit. But then there are times when I wish I had the words and thinky thoughts to write meta and have people read it and say, 'Ahhh' in an Eddie Izzard type voice but I hardly ever do. Then again, I do love looking for the Buffy Quote that fits the scene. The homage to Buffy that was done and how Buffy did it so much better. Because I am a biased bitch.

I read some meta the other and it was All About Dean. There are spoilers for 5x01 under the cut but nothing beyond that.

I don't remember where the meta was and I don't remember much of what I read other than how it was about Dean being Angry and how was Right to be Angry. Which, okay. Maybe he's allowed to be a bit angry but I really fucking hope that we learn that a lot of his anger towards Sam is actually directed at himself. He is aware that he (Mr Pefect 'Pin a Gold Ribbon on His Chest' Wincester) helped start the apocolypse, right? Seriously, I'm asking. I have a vague memory of Zachariah? Some other angel? A demon? telling him that his breaking the seal down in hell was what got the ball rolling.

If Dean (and/or Castiel and/or Bobby) are just all on board with Blaming Sam and pointing fingers at him and shitting on him ... I'm going to be really fucking pissed.

My hope for this season is that Castiel plays along with Dean and Sam but secretly he's kind of evil. We learn that him (Castiel) and Ruby were lovers and they were both playing Sam and Dean. They both wanted Lucifer to rise and now that he's all risen Castiel's mission is to seek revenge (on Deaaaaaan mostly) for killing his girl.

*crosses fingers*

- please don't spoil me for any upcoming eps.

It was Alastair who told Dean that he broke the first seal, and I'm pretty sure that Castiel later confirmed it.

I'm going to be Tragically Sad and Very Pissed if everythingone (*is an idiot*) just blames Sam for the whole season.

I can't take the constant negativity towards Sammy. It makes my heart sad. D:

Riiiiiiight. Thank you.

I'm going to Very Pissed and Probably A Lot Confused if all the blame is directed at Sam.

[identity profile] giantlovetingle.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
What's that saying? When you point a finger at someone else, don't forget you've got three pointing back at you? Dean best take note of that. And I'm not taking sides, but yeah, they're kind of all to blame for Lucifer walking around giving people man-periods.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I like that.

And yeah, they are. *throws shoes at them*

I'm not sure that I've ever read a meta about Sam. Maybe I'll have to suss one out sometime and see how I feel after reading it.

[identity profile] gwendolynmstacy.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
OH. OH.

If Dean (and/or Castiel and/or Bobby) are just all on board with Blaming Sam and pointing fingers at him and shitting on him ... I'm going to be really fucking pissed.

Me too, but I think you know this because yeah okay fine Dean can be angry whatever but, but my main issue with 5.01 was how, like, people were offhandedly blaming Sam over it. Dude, I'm sorry, they both hand a hand in it and that includes Dean starting it because IMO in "Head on a Pin" at the end is when (good ole buddy *rolls eyes*) Castiel tells/confirms for him that he started it.

And yes, I too wish he were kind of evil. I seem to like some better that way. But even if he was I probably would not like him better, might get him brownie points, but I still won't like him better.

Your box is gooooooing towards you *thumbs up. &hearts *

It just doesn't make any sense to me that Dean's not feeling responsible at all, I mean he doesn't even look like he feels guilty at all and usually Dean looks guilty for things he has or had no control over but this? He had control. Yanno?

\o/ \o/

[identity profile] laurondo.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It was Alastair who told him and then Castiel confirmed it. But yeah, I would really like for Sam to find this out reallllllllly soon.

The amount of time I spend comparing Buffy to Supernatural for people who have seen one and not the other should be cataloged so I can get paid for royalties.

I'm'a be pissed at Dean if he never tells Sam how he was the first seal.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
You should let Joss and Kripke know this.

Maybe Sam will get tired of all the blame being thrown in his face and he'll start down that dark road again and when he's ready to destroy the world Dean will be all, 'Uh, hey. I gotta tell you something before you destroy the world. I might have maybe started the whole apocalypse thing."' And Sam will laugh a bitter sort of laugh and maybe say, 'Nice try, Dean.' And Dean will say, 'No. When I got off the rack in hell, when I started to torture the others ... that was the first seal. I broke the first seal.' That's when Sam will punch Dean in the face.

[identity profile] breathe-me27.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I know what you mean about the majority of meta being all about Saint Dean and his epic journey. It bugs the hell out of me.

I accept that in the first couple of episodes are going to include a lot of blaming Sam. I don't like it but I accept it. But if the whole season continues that way, I am going to be MAJORLY PISSED OFF. Okay, so Sam fucked up. Dean fucked up too. CASTIEL fucked up many, many times (hellooo he was the idiot who let Sam out of the panic room). Everyone fucked up and instead of placing all the blame on Sam, they need to accept responsibility for what happened and move the hell on so they can start fixing it.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
If it doesn't turn out that Castiel is secretly evil and no one finds out that he's the one that let Sam out? Heads are going to roll.
lavendergaia: (Don't fuck with Sammy)

I'm one of those people who writes a lot of meta because I can't sleep unless I get thinky thoughts out of my head, but that meta sounds more like "I'm a Deangirl and I must constantly validate all his poor decisions and douchebag actions." Alastair told Dean that he broke the first seal and Castiel told him it was true, but other than that, I don't think he's told anyone, so I feel like Bobby and Sam will continue blaming Sam (if not out loud, than mentally) because Dean refuses to come clean because Dean hates himself for it and if he can be in denial, then it didn't happen and none of this is his fault and how dare Sam do anything to bring to light what he was trying to hide. And see, I'm totally doing it again, sorry for the random meta.

I really wanted Ruby to be evil in season 4 when she got boring as hell, and if they want to follow that up with Castiel, I'd agree. But I don't think Kripke would do that because all he'd hear was the murderous cries of the crazies and not the rest of us laughing our asses off in the background.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
I can understand that, if I had thinky thoughts in my head I'd probably want/need to write them down too.

I loved S4 Ruby the bestest so I didn't think she was boring or anything but I was torn between wanting her to be evil and wanting her to just be in love with Sam and wanting the bestest for him (them) and not just sorta in love with Sam but mostly using him to get Lucifer out and about.

Dean does know he broke the first seal, so I think you're right that part of his anger is really at himself and not Sam, but I think the anger towards Sam isn't necessarily "You started the apocalypse, asshole!" but rather, "You listened to a DEMON over YOUR OWN BROTHER." In which case, Dean really does have every right to be pissed as hell at Sam. That is what I have interpreted his anger as being about, anyway. Not the apocalypse but just Sam choosing Ruby and listening to Ruby over Dean, given the fact that Dean has basically spent his entire life trying to protect Sam and give him what he wanted, not to mention y'know, going to hell for him, and for Sam to listen to the word of a demon over Dean was more than adequate reason for Dean to be pissed off.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! Yes, thank you for mentioning that, that was something else I was also going to talk about but completely forgot about. *makes a note to ramble about it later*

[identity profile] kellifer-fic.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Trufax.

People just have to remember that Dean was the original Sam-girl. :D

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Dean needs to remember this also.

[identity profile] sonicbookmark.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
ALL OF THIS, YES.

My hope for this season is that Castiel plays along with Dean and Sam but secretly he's kind of evil.

I just want him to die and not like Buffy!die but like Sirius Black!die were it is PERMANENTLY-FOR GOOD-AIN'T NO COMING BACK FROM THIS ONE, BABE.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'd like that very much.

Also it'd be kind of neat if as Castiel was playing Sam and Dean Sam and Dean in turn were playing Castiel.

[identity profile] fromyourashes.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
We learn that him (Castiel) and Ruby were lovers and they were both playing Sam and Dean. They both wanted Lucifer to rise and now that he's all risen Castiel's mission is to seek revenge (on Deaaaaaan mostly) for killing his girl.

I read that fic, right?

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps.

[identity profile] bitterbird.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
YES WORD! I want Dean to admit this is partly his fault too. Also not only did Dean break the first seal but he was ok with killing Lilith as well so he is far from blameless

I want evil!Castiel now!!!

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Evil!Castiel would be a much better Castiel.

[identity profile] lotrabc.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
I now intensely want evil!Castiel. Not the least of which is b/c it will culminate in his death. Bah, if they don't at least bring up him letting Sam out of the panic room...*Shakes head*

And Dean...I love your sense of loyalty and right and wrong, but...LET YOUR BROTHER TALK.

I agree with the comments above: Fandom AND Dean need to remember he was the original Sam!girl.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Castiel letting Sam out of his cage had better come up and shit had better hit the fan.

[identity profile] lembeau.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
You know how pissed off I was at Dean and the writers at the end of the premiere, so yeah. Dean knows and remembers that he broke the first seal and he needs to tell Sam, but this is SPN, so that means the writers need the aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaangst to last a couple of eps.

Out of all of the meta that I read, I liked [livejournal.com profile] musesfool's the best. Yes, Sam should be abjectly apologizing to everyone he meets for a while [because he started the apocalypse], and yes, Dean should be resentful and hurt and be allowed to express that, and Sam is going to have to deal with that for a while, but it's not just Sam's fault, and I hope the writers allow Dean to bear some responsibility for it, instead of taking the all-too-familiar fannish tack of heaping all the blame on one character and sanctifying the other.

As I said to her in the comments: I just want them both to realize that they were being set up for this from the very beginning and they were both wrong. They just need to get that through their freaking thick heads.

We learn that him (Castiel) and Ruby were lovers

Dude, I already wrote you Dean/Ruby, I don't think I can do that. :OP

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I just want them both to realize that they were being set up for this from the very beginning and they were both wrong.

Yes. This.

[identity profile] oreius.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
Alistair told Dean he was the first seal, did the whole and it is written when a righteous man breaks blah blah. Castiel confirmed it, and then Zachariah threw it in his face in Lucifer Rising. It really does piss me off that Dean is all mad at Sam for setting him free. I mean, ugh, I get that Dean being tortured in Hell was hard and yeah it was easier to break down there, but IDK. I think Sam being alone without Dean for those four months might have been worse than what Dean went through, like that whole loss of a loved one and feeling like it's your fault can really fuck you up. So this woe is Dean bs annoys the shit out of me.

ALSO, WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO FIND OUT THAT CASTIEL SET SAM FREE???? AND WHY ISN'T CASTIEL BLAMING HIMSELF FOR THAT? FUCKING BLAMING SAM/DEAN FOR DESTROYING THE WORLD WHEN HE COULD HAVE KEPT IT FROM HAPPENING. Excuse my caps, but ugh.

Like someone said up there, I'm going to be really pissed if Dean never comes clean about breaking the first seal.

Also, can Castiel please be evil so I can actually hate him. I want to hate him so bad, but damnit, I just can't 'cause he's so badass. BLAH.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
These are the issues that show needs to / should address. But no. It's more about how AWESOME "Cas" is and how buddy buddy him and Dean are. Ugh.

[identity profile] bouncywild.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 07:17 am (UTC)(link)

That's the only way I'd suddenly like Castiel. ;)

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
He'd be a much better character, I think if this were the storyline.

[identity profile] bouncywild.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
It bugs me that Dean "going to hell" is held over Sam's head. I don't believe Dean's actions were entirely selfless; he felt he'd failed Sam and this was his way of making amends, but not once did he factor in leaving Sam alone a year later, leaving him with this terrible burden of his "powers", not even considering what losing Dean would do to Sam. It's all about making Dean feel better about Dean and then, when Sam screws up, give Sam the biggest load of shit for it. And CONSTANTLY. Before? It would be forgotten over a beer. But now it's Dean throwing everything back in Sam's face when Dean is ALWAYS doing wrong and making mistakes. He's completely selfish in his actions, he doesn't want to own up to making his own mistakes and be judged for it, even though the breaking the seal thing? NOT ENTIRELY his fault, considering the circumstances and him being TORTURED.

The way I see it is Sam's never going to be on an equal playing field with Dean, not where certain people are concerned. Sam makes a friend in Ruby and is betrayed, and Sam comes out of it as the biggest douchebag ever. Dean makes a friend in Castiel who, in his own way, is deceitful and has a hand in turning Dean against Sam, and Dean and Castiel come out of it as BFF and neither can do wrong.

What I haven't seen, hand to God, is any of this kind of reaction for Sam from someone who is ultimately more of a Dean fan; all I've seen are the outcries from the Sam fans.

I didn't mean to vent. Again!

HAHAHAH that would be EPIC.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
And maybe there'd be flashback scenes of Castiel and Ruby together. Plotting and scheming.

[identity profile] ongiara.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd like to think heaps of Dean's anger is directed at himself because, evidently, they all played their parts in bringin about the apocalypse. Maybe the guy just needs longer to step off this high horse and admit to himself that he let himself be used just as much as Sam did.
I do find it impressive how Dean has resisted Sam's sad puppy eyes for now, though. It's almost cruel. They need to hug this out asap.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It had better be directed at himself or at least some of it but right now? It doesn't seem like it is and that bothers me. A lot.

[identity profile] abydosww.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, I have been saying this all along. I am so sick of Dean and his "I am so perfect" routine. I have to say Dean's holier than thou attitude is a little sickening and such hypocrisy.

I don't get this either. Sure Sam did the last bit, but Dean did the first bit! And there were fuckups from both of them along the way. Sure sure demon blood whatever, but Sam shouldn't have to shoulder the blame.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
They really need to talk to each other and LISTEN to each other. Ugh.
