Switched at Birth || Leverage || Tags are hard

Switched At Birth:

I love everything about this show. The characters, their relationships, etc. etc.
Sure, Bay and Toby's mom annoys me quite a bit but it's done in a way that's realistic and not over exaggerated.
I'm pretty sure I want Emmett and Bay together.
Does anyone know if they are accurate with the Sign-Language?

Leverage:

Like Psych I need this show in my life forever and always.
I also love everything about this show. Well, just about everything.
I want them to either make Nate just randomly stop being an alcoholic or I want for them to take it more seriously.
One of the small things I like is that Christian Kane doesn't look ridiculous when he's doing fight/action scenes. (In my opinion, of course)

* * *

I'm very slowly going through tags and re-tagging things. It's so hard. Luckily, paid accounts can have 4000 tags. I doubt I'll need that many but it's nice that that option is there.

And there are some tags where I think, 'Oh, I should watch that show or post pictures of that actor' so that I can use the tag more often just so it's not a complete waste of a tag.

Do you have a system for tagging your entries?

I love Switched at Birth!

It's so good! I think every episode has made me cry. (it doesn't take much to make me cry)

I love switched at birth & of course leverage!

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
They're both such great shows.

[identity profile] eilan.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Really, 4000 tags? That is a lot of tags!
I have like 20 I use reguarly, and probably like 50 tops.
Wth would I do with 4000 tags?

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, it is a lot of tags. I've gone from 500+ to 600+ in the past couple of days. I'm hoping that I won't be over 2000 when I'm done

Switched At Birth:
I wonder if they'll deal with Toby's gambling probalem. He owed $10,000 in poker debts??!! DAMN. I too like Emmett and Bay, I figured that's why they got rid of Ty.

I looked up on Wikipedia and found this:
The show employs a American Sign Language expert who helps make sure that the sign language used by the three fluent regulars (Katie Leclerc, Sean Berdy and Marlee Matlin) and Constance Marie all employ a similar dialect.

Leverage:
I agree about Nate and the drinking. He's an alcholic and they let him drink. UGH. Snide comments aren't going to make him stop drinking. You're right, Christian Kane does not look ridiculous doing fight scenes.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they might if they find out just how bad it is, they seem like a show that deals with things. I think.

I like that they brought someone in so that they're all using the same dialect. Though, I wonder if that's actually confusing for Marlee ... I'm not sure if the others are deaf in really real life. Or maybe a different dialect in Sign Language would be like learning an accent. Hmmm.

The whole Nate alcoholic thing really bothers me.

[identity profile] paperscout.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Arggg are they going back to the alcohol storyline? I got really tired of that. Tired of Nate in general though. Bah.

I've been retagging my LJ too, I have a system that seems like it's probably pretty similar to yours. Still some tags that need correcting, but obvs feel free to check it out =)

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think they ever really stopped just sometimes they bring it up and sometimes they don't and sometimes they're ANGRY about it and sometimes it's like a joke and it's just annoying.

I've been changing a lot of tags around so that in the future it might be easier for me to find something should I ever need to find something.

I like your different "life" tags.

[identity profile] hamarakissa.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'm loving Switched at Birth as well! :D

As for tagging - I really should go through and make an organized tag list. :x

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I hope it gets picked up for a season two. And three and four and ...

Sometimes you just feel like having fun and/or nonsense type tags but then after awhile you realize that it doesn't help when you need to find something.

I adore Switched at Birth and it's acknowledgement of the Deaf community. From my very little ASL knowledge, it looks good and obviously some of the actors are Deaf/hard of hearing and are fluent so I'm sure they probably translate it a lot of times (but sign language does vary a lot be region and has different "dialects") so it might not be "correct" for everyone.

Leverage is flawless. Every Sunday is a thousand days away.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
I know the alphabet and a couple of words in Sign Language but Switched at Birth makes me want to learn it all.

And also the Leverage seasons are far too short.

It's a beautiful language, I love studying it.

It's getting 18 episodes this season, which is awesome.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Fantastic. I hope next season they get up to 22.

[identity profile] framedhim.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
My dvr is getting saddlebags from the strain I put on her so I have to ask..if you could choose one, which would it be? I want to get my headspace away from Supernatural for at least 30 min. to an hour.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Leverage is mostly light and fun and has a lot of hitting. And Switched at Birth is sometimes heavy and full of family drama and dynamics. Both are wonderful but very different. I'd go for whichever one you think you'd enjoy more.

[identity profile] framedhim.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I appreciate that, had heard kudos about the actors on Leverage but none from the other. Hadn't dug deep enough to check them out. I read EW for the opinions on new shows but didn't see bits on these. I was hoping Switched at Birth would be something a little different - I don't really know what though. I think I have all the drama I can take w/ tv stuff so I'll give Leverage a try.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That is a good choice.

[identity profile] goingtoqueens.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I watched a couple episodes of Switched At Birth, and while I think they handle deaf culture really well, I feel like they turned Constance Marie's character into a cliche and I find their portrayal of her offensive, as someone who is Puerto Rican. She's Puerto Rican, so she's a single mom and she's poor and she can't hold down a job. Awful.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see it that way, perhaps because I'm not Puerto Rican or ethnic in any sort of way, but I just see it as they needed someone who would match Bay's colouring and came from a different background/class.

Would you feel differently if the families were reversed?

[identity profile] goingtoqueens.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
There are so many little things, like Bay's behavior in the pilot, after finding out she's Hispanic, she acts out and says something along the lines of how that's the way she would have acted if she was raised by her real mother. Because she's lower class, Puerto Rican.

Yes, I would. I feel like the show is a cliche of all things. Every character, aside from the pretty redhead actress - god, I wish I could remember her name! - are so exaggerated. Like, I'm the single Puerto Rican mom from the "bad" side of town, so I Act Like This. We are the white, well off, suburban family, so we Act Like This. That being said, the families are not reversed and it's a pretty offensive portrayal, to me.
