Supernatural 5x08

This is probably going to be all over the place.

So, I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either.

I have no problem believing that Buffy Summers is The Chosen One but for some reason I cannot believe that Sam and Dean Winchester have also been "chosen" for different roles but yeah. I'm not sure why that is.

The Trickster's version of 'Supernatural' is pretty much how I see/view every ep, just the colours are darker as is the lighting of the show.

I was really really fucking LOVING The Trickster right up until we learned that not so secretly he's really GABRIEL in DISGUISE. HOMG!!! That seems pulled out of an ass to me. Maybe not, but there it is. It was great learning that he's stronger than Castiel.

Dean said he wished they were back on TV. But uh, has he forgotten that they're actually in a series of books? Slightly different but also a little bit of six of one a half dozen of the other.

Randy: Careful, this is the moment when the supposably dead killer comes back to life for one last scare.
Sidney: Not in my movie.

I don't quite understand why they don't just get a hold of Chuck and perhaps start re-writing one of his manuscripts. Or write ahead of the game. Write their own ending.

I did quite enjoy that when Dean met McDreamy Dr. Sexy he looked more smitten and googly eyed than he ever has whenever he's looked at a girl that he's found breathing attractive.

The duct tape over Castiel's mouth was a real nice look for him.

I wonder if the doctor's (nurse's?) speech to Sam about him being scared and thinking that he's not able to love again was all fiction or if we were supposed to read between the lines.

Dean said that he hated procedural (I think I maybe spelled that word wrong) cop shows because they're all the same. Going behind the scenes, I'm assuming this is the POV of the writers of Supernatural or the writer of this ep. But what I would like to know is do they not realize that their show at least in the earlier seasons was very very similar to all of those 'cop' shows? Or, well I think so.

On CSI, Criminal Minds, Medium ... and a slew of others, there's a body. There's investigating. There's research. There's finding out who dunnit.

On Supernatural there was a body. There's investigating. There's research. There's finding out who (or in most cases what) dunnit.

And sure, the investigating and research techniques are different but the end result is the still the same isn't it? Find the bad guy.

This is also why I don't understand how some people find shows like Supernatural scary or scary at times but can watch those other kinds of shows.

But then I don't understand a lot of things.

Oh! Oh oh ho!

"Would your mother and father still be alive if Sam hadn't been born?" (or however it was worded)
"Yes."

FUCK THAT AND FUCK YOU.

Is there a greater chance that they'd still be alive? Perhaps. But one cannot know for certain if they would have been, and I get that it was fiction (I almost just typed 'fuction") and was a silly game show but they're still implying that shit and again I say FUCK YOU. Stop blaming Sam for shit he has no control over. RAGES & ROARS

SAM was McDreamy. Sexy was McSteamy. I think. LMFAO. Dean and Sam are both bisexual. :D

I laughed SO FREAKING HARD AT THE BEETLEJUICE-ESQUE TAPE OVER CASTIEL'S MOUTH. I find myself getting irritated every single time he appears, so I was ROLLING every time he was zapped off my screen. SO MUCH GOOD FOR ME.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, perhaps but I'd go the other way though with Sam being McSteamy.

Seriously. He just ... He just ughs me so fucking much.

[identity profile] fromyourashes.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Sam got Meredith, though, and has the flippy hair, and the character had the surgery issue what with being a coward and all that, so he HAS to be McDreamy, and Dr. Sexy was actually pretty hot, so he HAS to be McS-yeah, Steamy. LMFAO. I'm making this much more serious than it has to be.

I hope that when Castiel is killed, it's the Trickster who does it. Gabriel. Trickster Gabriel.

I don't see Sam and Dean as the OTP anymore (FOR SHAME, I KNOW), but ANYTHING that gets Castiel off the show so that I don't have to hear Dean WHINING "CASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS" anymore will make me happy. And yes, bring on the Trickster. So much fabulousness in one tiny little man.

[identity profile] donna-c-punk.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
But what I would like to know is do they not realize that their show at least in the earlier seasons was very very similar to all of those 'cop' shows? Or, well I think so.

Maybe that was another backhanded slap at those who hate the direction the show's taken since the beginning of season four. More of this, "THE SHOW IS DIFFERENT, THEREFORE, IT'S BETTER THAN IT WAS IN 1-3. LOVE IT, YOU WHINY IGNORANT BITCHES."

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, perhaps. I wish they'd sent us a memo about that though.

[identity profile] donna-c-punk.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
They did. BECKY THE FANGIRL in the premiere.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah? Huh. I was mostly cringing during that scene so I don't really remember anything.

[identity profile] donna-c-punk.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, she was all, "Angels and Armageddon. Awesome change up to the mythology, just the demons were getting BOOOOOORING." or some fucked up bullshit. Which was Kripke's way of saying, "SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT THE ANGELS, YOU BITCHES. LOVE IT OR LOVE IT. THERE AIN'T NO LEAVIN' IT."

[identity profile] muses-circle.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Seems to me the writers are trying to make everyone forget that there were three kickass awesome seasons of this show before the bottom fell out in season four. Everything you just mentioned - especially with the cop show spoofs and comments - makes me think that.

I have no problem believing that Buffy Summers is The Chosen One but for some reason I cannot believe that Sam and Dean Winchester have also been "chosen" for different roles but yeah. I'm not sure why that is.

Because they spent three seasons building up something totally different and then retconned the hell out of it in season four?

The duct tape over Castiel's mouth was a real nice look for him.

He should wear this look all the timeoften.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Because they spent three seasons building up something totally different and then retconned the hell out of it in season four?

Hahaha. That there is an excellent point.

I don't understand this show at all.

[identity profile] muses-circle.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
It sure ain't the show I used to love to watch.

[identity profile] donna-c-punk.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
You goddamn got that right.

[identity profile] gwendolynmstacy.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I knew you'd sort of be in the middle sort of majority and I still love the trickster in a way but now it just seems like they're pointing and laughing at Sam and Dean and whatnot.

I did like him going away like that, it kept making me laugh. Honestly, I've watched it about oh 5 times now and while I like some spots? Others I hit the remote on.

On Supernatural there was a body. There's investigating. There's research. There's finding out who (or in most cases what) dunnit. And sure, the investigating and research techniques are different but the end result is the still the same isn't it? Find the bad guy.

...I'm going to be funny and say I've always viewed supernatural as a CSI type but only with you know, demony things (and yes, that was my lame attempt at funny)

ETA: One wonders, what would happen if Sam&Dean got stuck in the books [the supernatural ones] instead of TV. Hmm. Hijinx, mayhaps, but now I wished they'd gotten sucked into one of the books and could go back and ...okay maybe not but it'd solve alot of crap at this point.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, no. I've pretty much always viewed Supernatural as a CSI type show too.

I think that would've been more interesting if they'd gotten stuck in one of the books like 'Shadow' or whatever the season one finale was. They wouldn't be able to change anything of course but they could see where it all went wrong.

[identity profile] gwendolynmstacy.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, but with less human death and more things the general population has no to little interest in. Or something *nods* (And I'm saying this mostly because of the ratings for CSI's, Grey's, et al.)

I think it was 'Salvation' at the end of Season 1, but yes, that would possibly interest me more. Also maybe even though it's a cop out I would love for them to do this - change one thing and as a RESULT have NO MORE CASTIEL. Or maybe I'm just overly picky.

"Would your mother and father still be alive if Sam hadn't been born?" (or however it was worded)
"Yes."

FUCK THAT AND FUCK YOU.

I've had some time to stop my seething hate at that but dude, I think we get it, Kripke wants to be Dean or he wishes he was. Also, man the thing that bothers me about it is, I don't care if it's in Japanese that sounds like you're wishing he was dead period. Which, what. the. hell. That makes me VERY uncomfortable, still. In fact I hated that whole game show TV shot, TBH.

I think they're trying to get us all to hate Sam incase he does say 'yes' to Lucifer, which, fuck that if that's the case because the glimpse we got in 5.04 I loved.
Edited 2009-11-06 06:15 (UTC)

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that'd be awesome if they could change that.

The more they lay all the blame on Sam the more I want him to say yes, and then I want him to start slapping people.

[identity profile] gwendolynmstacy.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Would it? TBH, I'd at least loved for them to have 'Salvation' go different and maybe have John die in the cabin and then see what would happen but if we're going to change a bit, I wonder if they could have changed things in 'Bedtime Stories' and have Sam make a deal with his soul in exchange for Dean's or something and then.. yeah [totally not going to go off on a tangent] but each one he could end up saving Dean and although it probably would've cost him they equal no Castiel.

SERIOUSLY. At least Lucifer said he wasn't going to lie or trick him like everyone else around him. I'm down for him slapping people because it's getting annoying and insane. EVERYONE HAD THEIR HAND IN THE APOCALYPSE COOKIE JAR, SPN WRITERS. It wasn't just Sam. It was EVERYBODY.

Sometimes, I think the fans keep better track than the people working on the show which what is that all about? Hmmpf.

And I can't spell tonight apparently *facepalm*

I really do wonder if the writers actually remember/know this.

Judging from our reactions? Helllllllllllll no. *tiny shaking fists of rage* They just want a scape goat so that if Sam does say yes Dean (much like canon says he is now or the perception is anyway, idk whichever lol) can play 'hero' and Sam can be 'evil' and that's really what I think they're doing.

*tiny shaking fists of rage* is appropriate at this point, IMO. I might be wrong but I doubt it. And yeah, Sam saying yes just to kick some ass? I wouldn't blame him at this point.

*RAGES AND ROARS WITH YOU*

JFC, THERE WERE 66 SEALS. SAM BROKE ONE. IT'S ONLY 1/66 HIS FAULT, AND NOT EVEN THAT, BECAUSE IT WAS AN ACCIDENT AND HE WAS FUCKING SET UP. DO THE WRITES NOT REALIZE THIS???? WHY DOES NOBODY SEE THAT IT'S NOT HIS FAULT????!?!???!?!??!?!?!!!!!!!!!!

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
I wish I knew what they were thinking or where they were going with this. It pisses me of so damn fucking much.

"Would your mother and father still be alive if Sam hadn't been born?" (or however it was worded)

First of all, no, because we learned last season that Mary made a deal with the yellow-eyed devil before Sammy was even close to being consummated.

Secondly, I interpreted that as Gabriel-as-Trickster's bias against the Winchesters and Sammy in particular as he is an angel.

As for the chosen-ness of the boys, I see what you mean. I accepted it without pause on Buffy, but when it was first introduced here it felt...to fitting to be...fitting, if that makes sense. In much the same way that I felt Gordon's becoming a vampire was too on-the-head if you will to actually be ironic or interesting or something.

Part of me wonders if this has to do with the writers trying to make up for the fact that Sam and Dean are but two hunters in a world of hunters and Sammy is but one of many YED children ('member how pissy fans were back in season two?).

Yes, but what did you think of Dean fisting car!Sam?

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
I assumed that Stan knew that Sam was going to be born. But you do bring up a good point, Mary was still a hunter and even if she had planned to leave that life behind it most likely wouldn't have left her.

it felt...to fitting to be...fitting

That kind of does make sense.

Dean fisting car!Sam was pretty awesome and I'm wondering if Sam would have said, 'that's uncomfortable'* if Dean had lubed up first.

*or whatever it was he said.

THIS IS THE EPISODE WE SAW FILM. I FEEL KINDA COOL. I WISH WE COULD HAVE WATCHED THE HERPEXIA COMMERCIAL.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
I was thinking, '!!!' when I saw the part we saw being filmed. And hell, yeah that would've been awesome.

[identity profile] brianshanelvr.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
I am on the same page as far as the Buffy/Supernatural idea goes.. A Chosen one seems possible, or rather easier to believe? Not sure. But this good vs. evil, angel vs. demon, michael vs. lucifer, brother vs. brother.. ITS TOO MUCH!

I wonder if the doctor's (nurse's?) speech to Sam about him being scared and thinking that he's not able to love again was all fiction or if we were supposed to read between the lines.

I was trying to listen closely, because it seemed like a line we were supposed to think into, but really, she didn't say what I thought she should of..

"Would your mother and father still be alive if Sam hadn't been born?" (or however it was worded)
"Yes."

FUCK THAT AND FUCK YOU.

Oh, yeah! Lets say he wasn't born, then that means what? They were looking for brother all along? If not, they would of took in Dean? Cause he is special too right? I mean.. I DONT KNOW, but they really do need to leave him alone. Who here hasn't messed up ROYALLY!????

Fuck. *gets emotional*

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, good point. Maybe they would have found some other boy to pretend/play the role of Dean's brother in their epic cage match. This show makes no sense.

[identity profile] slashgoddess.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
those two stupid questions ruined this episode for me... =(

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't mind the other question quite as much because ... I have no fucking idea why. Probably because I'm biased toward Ruby. But yeah, that one question and then finding out that The Trickster has been GABRIEL all along (Hahah, we're so briliant, said the writers before patting themselves on the back.) kind of ruined the ep for me.

[identity profile] agt-league.livejournal.com 2009-11-07 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
Stop blaming Sam for shit he has no control over.

SO MUCH WORD.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-11-07 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Right?! It's getting old.

"Would your mother and father still be alive if Sam hadn't been born?" "Yes."

I DID NOT LIKE THAT ONE BIT.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2009-11-09 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It was the worstest bit ever.
