browser

Do you use Flock? Do you like it? Hate it? And details please.

I used it for a while (both on Mac and PC) and I felt it was slower than FF and Safari, plus it crashed a lot. Sometimes it wouldn't load big, picture heavy sites like LJ properly so that I saw my flist with a lot of red x's where the icons should be. On the PC, I felt that it used a lot of CPU and made the computer slow.

I loved the idea of social features but in the end, I didn't use them a lot. *shrugs*

I love it for icon batches of 20 or more. I mean, I still have to go through and insert the links manually into an icon table generator or whatever, but it's nice to be able to load them all at once, especially since I make icons like a person obsessed and sometimes end up with 50+ waiting to be posted.

...feel free to laugh.

I fucking hate that photo shoot. A lot.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahah. You know, I was wondering what you meant and then I thought you meant that and I wasn't sure how that was related to the broswer and yeah. I love you.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mean to but it was kind of adorable.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
How does Flock help with the uploading of icons in batches?

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
That is good information to know, thank you.

[identity profile] overstreets.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It has a nifty uploading feature! That's actually the only thing I use it for.

[identity profile] benitle.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I should probably add you can use some FF add-ons with Flock because Flock is based on FF. They tell you that some might be fully compatible and no guarantee yadda, yadda, yadda. Maybe that is part of the reason why it kept crushing so often for me.

When I used Flock, there were special Flock add-ons available but they were all boring and I thought where is the fun of using a browser that supports add-ons but I can't use the fun ones? If you're there for the add-ons, use FF.

Did you think she meant Friends Lock? 'cause I totally did until I read the comment.

I'm still not sure what flock is... *goes to google*

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it was all explained in the deleted posts.

It's a browser.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really use any of the add-ons that FF offers ... I don't know why.

[identity profile] siko-md.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
What? Too Gay for ya?

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha. No. It's just ... I just. I don't like it.

[identity profile] giantlovetingle.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'm using Flock right now and I actually kind of love it. Occasionally it'll do that "Not Responding" thing, but it gets over it and works again. I like having all the social site things integrated into it. Plus it's also handy to have that file uploader, I find that for me it's quicker to use that than say the upload tool that's on the photobucket/facebook/flickr page.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
But where does it upload your files to?

[identity profile] giantlovetingle.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
You can choose to where you want the files uploaded. Once you visit a site where one can upload files to, Flock like stores the information (if you want it to) and you can then upload to various sites using the Upload Tool. I've got Photobucket, Facebook, Flickr and MySpace. The only thing you have to signed in for it to work.

And with the Media Bar (which displays all media you've uploaded to a certain site) you can just click and drag it onto the screen to share. Like you can click and drag it into a comment box/LJ Post box for picspams or other nefarious reasons.

I only user when I want to make things easier with uploading to photobucket.

I use Flock all the time, especially for my icon batches. I've uploaded like 180+ icons at a time and it's such an easy thing.

Yeah, it's really nice and a great time saver too. I've heard some people that are really iffy about it, but I prefer it to the browser that comes with my internet.

*shrugs*

I use it too, and I think it did improve in the last versions, less heavy and doesn't freeze as much. it's really great for uploading many pictures/icons into photobucket or flickr (its best feature, IMHO), and more often than not remembers my tags when I reboot after my computer crashed for some lame reason.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
S'good to know. :)
