Do you have a lot of bookmarks (on your computer, this is)

Do you have them organized?

If you use Firefox, are a lot of them tagged?

Please tell me about your bookmarks.

I use Pinboard for fics, and most of the stuff I have in Firefox is hidden in folders that I have to decode in order to figure out where it is. (What's the difference between 'Stuff Stuff' and 'Others'? I have no idea. They both have no rhyme or reason to their content.) I couldn't live without my bookmarks toolbar though. Easiest/laziest way to get to all of my social media/the sites I use every day.

Is Pinboard like Pinterest or uh, the new Delcious... okay, I'm not sure what that other site was called.

Most of my bookmarks are in folders as well and I try to have them labelled properly. Though, sometimes it gets a bit jumbled.

Hahahaha. I feel you.

Yeah, Pinboard is sort of like Delicious but like, not terrible looking. I was hesitant to do it because it cost like $10 for an account, but I use it all the time, so it's pretty worth it.

I sort of wish I could have more folders for the stuff that's still unorganized, but I can't make a folder that just has like 2 things in it, for whatever reason. It bugs me too much.

I'm sad and don't bookmark anymore. I like Firefox's (and to a certain extend, Google Chrome's) thing where the top visited sites show up as tiles when you open a new tab. This is probably because I only visit like, 5 sites regularly.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2014-04-06 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
I was confused about that for awhile, and also because sometimes it wasn't there. I don't know how to explain it either.

Right now, I mostly bookmark fics and recipes I will probably never actually make.

I use Pinboard for fic and it was pretty damn organized until I got into 1D and then for some reason I just gave up. It's an untagged mess right now and I'm upset about it. I still have my Delicious account too, though I don't htink I've saved anything there since whenever the last SPN fic was I read.

Non-fic stuff gets saved to Firefox bookmarks, just in folders. I have a lot of folders. My folders have folders. Soooo many bookmarks. But I can still usually find what I'm looking for because organized chaos. The bookmarks toolbar is also my friend, though I have so many daily bookmarks saved to it that its its own folder, too, really.

Can anyone view a Pinboard or is it just for yourself? Do you think you'll organize the 1D fics?

When bookmarking a new page, do you always know right away where it goes or do you have like a "sort later" folder for random sites?

[identity profile] alwaysenduphere.livejournal.com 2014-04-06 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure anyone can view them. Here's mine. And yeah, eventually. I mean, it's a slow work in progress it's just that I seem to read more than I tag, so there's always tagged.

Well unless it's fic to read - which has its own folders depending on fandom - it usually just goes up to the bookmarks menu and either read later or sorted into a folder later.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2014-04-06 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
the pinboard seems pretty nifty, though I'm not sure I'd want to pay for it as I'm not sure how much it would actually get used.

Has yours paid for itself?

[identity profile] alwaysenduphere.livejournal.com 2014-04-07 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think it has. I mean, it's just the one time fee, and it's so so much nicer and easier to use than Delicious and I'm pretty big on organization so it's pretty helpful. I'm sure people use it for other things but it's really great if you save a lot of fic. If you don't save a lot of fic then it might not be for you.

I have different folders for different things - but I seriously need to re-organize my recipes online cause they are just a MESS! I use both chrome and firefox. I've never tagged stuff in FF before. But I keep random stuff together and then all my land comm stuff is in one folder name (beaconhills) or (liarsland), etc. For general graphic comms - like where to get stuff I have that in a resource folder :)

Any way my system makes so sense, except to me :x

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2014-04-06 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I too use Chrome and FF, and some bookmarks are the same in each and then some are not and sometimes that gets confusing. Does yours get confusing?

As long as your system makes sense to you, then it is all good.

[identity profile] giantlovetingle.livejournal.com 2014-04-06 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
I've got my bookmarks in Chrome. It used to be a big old mess, but then I organised everything into folders and sub-folders. Even then, there's still a "unsorted" folder for stuff I'm not sure how to bookmark.

I delicious/diigo fic that I've read and want to bookmark, but I keep forgetting to update it, so there's a folder in my bookmarks for fics that I need to add onto delicious/diigo.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2014-04-06 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I like that a lot of people use folders. They're so damn handy, especially that "unsorted" one.

[identity profile] eilan.livejournal.com 2014-04-06 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I have some book marks, for sites I don't visit every day, but like to check out every once in a while.

I use Pinterest for recipes and other random stuff such as that.
And I don't bookmark fics. I should cause some I just fall in love with, but I think there are probably thousands out there I still haven't read and need to, so I just need to keep moving on. LIke the Littlest Hobo, maybe tomorrow I'll wanna settle down, until tomorrow I'll just keep moving on.
/ramble.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2014-04-06 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you "memoried" fics on livejournal?

:) The Littlest Hobo theme song is my favourite.

[identity profile] citibyrd.livejournal.com 2014-04-07 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I also use pinboard for fic bookmarking, but only stuff I've already read. Things I want to read go into my chrome bookmarks, which are kind of a giant jumble and therefore not actually that useful. I do have some bookmark folders (fic to read, things to download, recipes, etc etc), but there are usually way too many things in each folder so they aren't acutally that useful. My pinboard stuff is all nicely tagged and findable, though! :)

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2014-04-07 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
as long as one corner is organized, right?

Wow. After reading through the comments on this post, I realize that I am so behind on being organized on the internet.

I just use my favorites bar for sites because, yes, I still need to upgrade from IE.

And then I just use livejournal posts to make myself lists of links of specific posts, what-have-you that I want to either come back to or save. That's always worked for me, though it's so simple, I know.

And I used to use the memory function here a ton, but I got so behind and figured I'd never be able to catch up. So I mass deleted everything I had in my memories probably around a month ago. It was over 50,000 of them.

Sorry for the late reply on this. I've just been catching up on posts, and I'm always curious about this kind of stuff. :)

as much as I hope you're able to get yourself more organized than you already are, based on my own experiences online, I'm not sure there ever is complete organization. which is sad.

Yes! Yes, you really should up date to firefox and/or chrome.

I'm curious about this stuff as well. :)
