Supernatural: 7x08: Season 7, Time For a Wedding!

Things That I Liked:
Uhm ...

Things That Were Pretty Okay:
Well ...

Things That I Didn't Care For:
How about ...

ALL OF IT. Oh, Sweet Moses. What the hell was this episode?

I like Emily Perkins. Okay, I really liked her in Ginger Snaps and something else that I can't think of but every time I see "Becky" I like her a little less and that makes me sad.

And how ... why did they decide that Becky represents the majority of fans? I know I'm a nutjob at times but I have zero desire to drug, kidnap and uh, at the very very least think about raping any well known person. Or any person. At all. Ever.

I also had no real opinion on Sera Gamble.

Then I read this. "The episode, which Gamble said “has elements of meta,” will be one of the season’s “lighter, funnier episodes,” but will “not attempt to tread in ‘French Mistake’ territory.”

How is any of that lighter and/or funnier? Why would she say that? She knows she's a girl right?

Ugh.

Then I was thinking, 'Well, at least the ending was sort of nice.'

And in some ways it's nice. In sort of sad very co-dependent way that Dean doesn't know anything outside of looking after Sam.

However.

After awhile of thinking of fictional conversations between Sam and Dean, I was reminded of an episode awhile back.

When Sam said, "Hey. I've got this demon blood problem. So. I'm going to leave."
And Dean replied, "Yeah. That's a great idea. I've got my bestest buddy Cas to hang with and clearly Bobby loves me more."
Then Sam was all, "Uh ... That wasn't quite what I expected."
Dean was just, "Oh, well. Tough titties for you, I guess. Hey, you want the Impala?"

And I just. I know that sometimes people hit rock bottom. And you just have to let them and then be there for them when they start climbing back up. Or send them on a magical quest.

I know that episode was awhile back. But I still don't like that Dean didn't try and fight Sam about that. Didn't try and tough love the shit outta Sam.

And now Sam's all. "Hey, we're okay now. We're grown ups. We can take care of ourselves now. Yay!" Dean's all, "BUT I CANNAE LOSE YOU, BABBY. YOU ARE ALL I KNOW."

Which on the one level, I really love and and enjoy. Like a lot. But on the other hand. I don't understand ... why now? I mean other than Dean's bestest bud is no more.

I think there might be some sort of sense that is buried amongst the babble. Maybe.

I had issues. You share many of them. I hate that they're just getting into these "problems" of Dean's dependency NOW. Really? This late in the game, guys? I'll keep watching the show, but it depresses me how they're going out of their way to make me despise a character I once identified with.

And then there's the part where they'll forget this happened and maybe bring it up again when it's convient, they need space to fill or can use it for a stupid joke. Like with a lot of things on the show.

You know how I feel about this mess entirely (to wit I thank you for emailing me because I had a feeling you'd also feel rage of some sort even though I didn't watch and you did). But uhm...

"BUT I CANNAE LOSE YOU, BABBY. YOU ARE ALL I KNOW."

I read this and immediately pictured Jensen with a scottish accent (why I dunno) and well. GIGGLE FIT.

And it's sad, but random, I liked Emily in Juno as the receptionist who offered Ellen Page boysenberry condoms at the family planning place

I liked Emily in Juno

I thought she was hilarious as Eunice in She's the Man. That character kills me every time I see that movie.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
It was meant to be said in a Scottish accent. :)

I still haven't seen Juno. I probably should at some point.

[identity profile] gwendolynmstacy.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
:)

You should!

Also uhm, technically Becky did all that to a guy thought to be dead. WTF, how do you get an annulled marriage from a guy that's thought to be dead? Also wouldn't that draw law enforcement attention? WTF?!

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
And that makes it even more gross but I honestly thought that Sam and Dean "died" a few years ago.

[identity profile] gwendolynmstacy.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Even still the idea of that is way gross and full of WTF and continuity errors

[identity profile] lfg1986.livejournal.com 2011-11-14 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, this episode.

I had read the spoilers and I knew the bride was Becky and there was some love potion going on, but I really never expected them to take it THAT FAR. I honest-to-God thought Becky had "raped" him until she mentioned that they hadn't consummated. It still just skeeved me out on so many levels, BEFORE taking into account that she's supposed to represent the fandom. Just...NO.

Don't even get me started on Dean and his nonsense. Besides the insane pretty that is Jensen's face, I've been wanting to punch him all season.

I will say that, however convenient, I did love Crowley's little "you kill the Leviathans, we'll stay out of your way" speech. Really it's just because I love Crowley and so I get happy whenever I see his face, lol.

Overall, this was just not a cute or funny episode like they were going for. It was creepy, but not in the fun way I like the show to be. I did laugh when Jared kept trying to talk with that shirt or towel or whatever that was stuck in his mouth, though. ;)

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
I just don't understand why they thought it'd be hilarious to have a girl like that represent fandom.

I did enjoy Crowley.

[identity profile] cloex-brosluvr.livejournal.com 2011-11-14 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
And how ... why did they decide that Becky represents the majority of fans? I know I'm a nutjob at times but I have zero desire to drug, kidnap and uh, at the very very least think about raping any well known person. Or any person. At all. Ever.

Seriously! Even though she didn't rape him, she still violated him by undressing him (taking off his pants and you know damn well crazy girl felt him up) while he was unconscience.

Then I read this. "The episode, which Gamble said “has elements of meta,” will be one of the season’s “lighter, funnier episodes,” but will “not attempt to tread in ‘French Mistake’ territory.”

Lighter and funnier?? Um, yeah, NO. This doesn't bode well for me for the rest of the season then since I didn't think this episode was funny (maybe a couple of scenes but overall no). I still hope there is no more meta episode EVER AGAIN ON THIS SHOW!

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Now, I'm kind of wondering if he still had his underwear on. :/

Yeah, what they consider "lighter and funnier" differs greatly from what I consider "lighter and funnier."

[identity profile] laurondo.livejournal.com 2011-11-14 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
I actually watched the episode because lol, I couldn't believe it when I heard about it and wanted to see for myself.... and yeah. I am glad I stopped watching this show.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
This was a particularly horrid and gross and disgusting episode, that's for sure.

[identity profile] framedhim.livejournal.com 2011-11-14 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
I like what you've written and thought out here, I get it. I...was not so rational. It's one hour of tv that I allow myself on Fri. because I look forward to it, and they wrote - that.

Many have been saying - c'mon it just tv. Okay, to that I say, remember that epi. of Buffy - the one where Spike attacked her out of "love", in her bathroom. This reminded me somewhat of that sort of creepy adoration, only Spike wasn't a metaphor for fandom and people were NOT happy. I'm seeing people blow this non-con off like it's no big deal, and that, I don't get. ::shakes head:: Maybe I'm finally, officially an old prude.

Also, you lay the issue of Sam being worked over by the writers far better than I. I do feel bad for Dean, that pout he had at the beginning and the end was sad. But yeah, again, what you said.

I know that I wasn't happy when that happened on Buffy but I know a lot of Spike lovers and Spuffy supporters who, uhm. While they didn't love it they weren't as upset about it as one would like them to be.

I wasn't a fan of Spike for a long while (even before that) and then when he was on Angel, I sort of liked him again. But. I think a lot of that had to do with the fact that Buffy forgave him. I don't know why she would have but it's her life and her choice.

On Supernatural, they didn't even seem to acknowledge that what she did was WRONG not just slightly naughty. And that bothered me a lot.

/here's hoping some of that made sense.

[identity profile] framedhim.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
It did make sense, and fwiw, I agree.

[identity profile] wickedgrdn.livejournal.com 2011-11-14 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
On principal, I've decided that this episode doesn't exist and therefore I will not be watching it. As far as I'm concerned there's 7x07 and 7x09 (which I hope to hell I don't have to skip too because yo, I'd be pissed!). I do like Emily Perkins. However, I don't like the picture they are painting of the fans every time she's in an episode. I, for one, am NOT like Becky. I will never be like Becky and I never WANT to be like Becky. End of. It seems that the writers of this show think all the fans are batshit crazy. HELLLOOOO I'M NOT ONE OF THEM and I know you aren't either and I can name half a dozen more that aren't either. I wish they'd knock it the hell off, kill Becky and be done with this fan service bullcrap. It's bad enough that time after time they keep coming back to this. It was funny ONE TIME. Now, it's just annoying.

This comment is perfect.

Thank you. :D

That's been building since Friday, LOL. It felt good to get it out. :)

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I was thinking that but then I thought. No. I am going to commit this episode to memory. That way, should I ever see Jared or Jensen in public, I can run up to them. Glomp them. Maybe pepper their cheeks with kisses. And while they're freaking out, their wife yelling at me and hitting me, and Clif is pulling back his arm and making a fist to punch me in the face. I can be all, "Oh, no. You cannot act this way. I am a part of fandom that you all think is adorable and funny."

Dean did have some pretty good faaaaaaaaaaces during the episode.

I just like the fact that Sam's contact info in Dean's phone is saved as "Sammy." That's all I got from this ep.

I missed that part. That's pretty awesome. But I wonder when he changed it because I'm sure that we've seen it as "Sam" before.

[identity profile] giantlovetingle.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
I really didn't like this episode. It was gross and I think it's kind of awful that Gamble called it "lighter and funnier". NO. NO IT WASN'T.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
It was the opposite of light and funny. Unless Sera is constantly living in opposite world.
