Suits

I watch Suits. I enjoy Suits. I really like the UST and chemistry between the two main boys. And thanks to [livejournal.com profile] neversince I've actually learned some of their names. :p

But I'm not sure I get it.

How long before they find out that Mike's not actually a lawyer?

Why doesn't he just take the Bar Exam?

I just. I don't want to see the fall-out when they find out but on the other hand I'll think it's ridiculous if they don't ever find out.

I love the show but I'm with you....when is the other shoe gonna drop? Though, technically Mike isn't doing any lawyering in a courtroom. He's just being a really efficient legal assistant. But if he can ace the bar exam, why doesn't he just take it? Are there requirements for taking it? Do you have to have a law degree before you can actually take it? I know very little about the subject but I assume Mike could ace the test since he professionally took it for others and knew what score he was getting for them.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
But he did do that one case.

And yeah, I don't know if there are requirements for it either but if there aren't any or there's not a lot of hoops to jump through before taking it ... why doesn't he just take it? It makes no sense!

My brain is fuzzy from the two new lawyer shows I watch. Which case did he try?

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
The one with the guy who wasn't paying his rent because the landlord wouldn't come in and fix anything or get rid of bed bugs, etc. And then it became this whole BIG DEAL case.

[identity profile] cherrymmm.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay I must be completely out of it or else I missed an ep because I don't remember that at all. And I would have remembered because bed bugs freak me out!

LOL. I totally know what you mean. I get that it's fun and ~mysterious (LOL kind of)~ now but I doubt they're going to be able to milk that for more than the first half of this season.
Or it may really last forever and be like Merlin where everyone is really stupid enough to believe that all those things happen around him by accident...four seasons later. Oh God.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure which I'd prefer, I mean. If it lasts forever that seems almost unbelievable but if they find out ... will they still have a show? Hmm.

No need to learn the names, after all, Puppy!Suit just became cannon.

I thought he did take the Bar because some jock dared him, right? There was a discussion on imdb that kind of covered it. Something like after doing the Bar, if he works under a lawyer for a year it's like going to law school. I don't know. I'm assuming the show's going to address it at some point, so I'll enjoy the flirting until then.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, hmm. I suppose that could work out just fine. I hope.

I really wanted to watch that show because I loveeee Gabriel Macht, but the premise kind of makes me angry. Like, they are all lawyers, they should know better!

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Where do you know him from?

[identity profile] keeplistening.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The movie Because I Said So. He is perfect in that movie.

He did take the bar and aced it. The problem is that he never went to law school and the firm told Harvey to pick someone from Harvard for... prestige reasons or whatever.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-07-24 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh. I thought that that didn't happen. Hopefully when the shit hits the fan it doesn't spray too far.

Yeah, I WANT to enjoy the show but I just finished the fourth episode (where Mike appears on the record in court and thus SCREWS his client because, hey! not actually an attorney! everything gets overturned!) and the law stuff is really starting to bother me. RIght now, his genius self could zip through law school and then be a real lawyer the rest of his career (if that's what he wants), but if he gets caught defrauding the system, they'll never let him have a bar card and practice, EVER. It mostly pisses me off at Harvey, because Mike has been shown to be kind of an idiot have bad judgment. :\

Apparently he did take the Bar Exam. But still. There is going to be shit and there will be a fan. I just hope it doesn't spray too far.

I'm glad I don't watch this show for it's accurate portrayal of the legal system.

Heee. *ahem*

I've applied for the New York bar exam...IIRC NY is unusual in that you DON'T have to have a law degree to take the bar, but the alternate path is the apprenticeship. I have no idea what the requirements are for that but I'd imagine he could take it eventually if he works in the office long enough.
And as long as whatshisface supervises all his legal work, I don't think there's actually a problem. Maybe practicing law without a license, though, since he's actually representing himself as a lawyer.
