stalking icons

What exactly happens when one is "notified" when someone uploads a new icon? Just an email telling you 'so and so has uploaded an icon' or is it more 'here is a link to so and so's new uploaded icon.'?

I used to maybe sort of scoff at the idea of such a thing but since I stalk some of you and your userpics, it might be easier just to be notified. I don't know.

I love the icon notification. I don't get an e-mail. When I sign onto LJ I see "Messages" have many updates. When someone totally overhauls their icons it can get a little ridiculous. But I love to see what other people are up to.
