Elle Muliarchyk

I was watching Fashion Television last night because I didn't change the channel and they were talking to and about Elle Muliarchyk who is a model and photographer. I'd never heard of her before but wow, she's kind of wonderful.

She takes pictures of herself in the dressing rooms of ritzy botiques or in dangerous locations late at night/early in the morning.

"My very first shoot in London, was shooting in place that actually turned out to be a very famous gang spot so I was attacked by eight men, they took ... they kicked me, they threw me in the trees, they ripped off my shoes and my clothes, they took everything. Except for my camera and I was clutching on my camera screaming, 'No, no. Not the camera.' because the picture, the amazing picture was in there."

"After all of that when I remember it, I think it was completely worth it and I would even do it again. I was so happy and so proud about those pictures." (here)

And there's a video of her here taking pictures of herself in dressing rooms and talking about it. The pictures are amazing.

I was skeptical, because models! And fashion photography isn't my thing. But she's really very good! Her pieces are fully realized and not just...a pretty girl taking pretty pictures. And her pov on her work is really refreshing. Not a lot of "This is my ART and what it MEANS," talk, just her telling stories and smiling and clearly saying a little of why she does it. But also being confident enough to know that know artist can really EXPLAIN what they do, so she just smiles and it's tongue-in-cheek and relaxed.

I love Elle Muliarchyk! I've seen a couple episodes of FT that feature her on them. I really like her style, each picture is an adventure for her. It's cool.
