The Walking Dead

Big Fat Spoilers for tonight's episode.

It's totally Carl's fault that Dale is dead. Dale was my favourite. Carl is an annoying twit. I'm putting on the blame on him.

On twitter I said, I kinda hate Shane.

Moments later he was dead*

Why can't I have this power with other characters on other show? (and yes, it was all me - and anyone else hating on Shane that killed him)

*Did Rick kill him? Was he attacked by a Walker? I'm (obviously) not sure how exactly he died.

Rick knifed Shane and killed him. Then Carl shot Zombie!Shane in the head and ended him. As a fan of the comics, IT'S ABOUT FUCKING TIME SHANE GOT THE FUCK OUT OF THE STORY.

Carl IS responsible for what happened to Dale, but I'm thinking it's going to make him less of a goddamn little kid and more of the bad-ass he is in the comic book. Carl's one of my favorites in the comic.

I'm two weeks behind but spoiled to the brim but SHAAAAAAAANE ;_; I will really miss Jon Berenthal's face and body on my screen.

Thank you.

I think I might like Carl (or I would have liked him before he got Dale killed) if I didn't find the boy playing him to be such a shitty actor.

I do feel a bit bad for those that will miss that but I think I was one of a very few who wasn't all that impressed with his face and/or body. Perhaps if I had liked him, my feelings would be different.

I wasn't either. I was musing tonight, actually, at how odd Jon Bernthal's face is. I'm beginning to think he might've had his nose broken at some point in his life.

I can't believe they killed off Dale and Shane in two weeks.

Totally agree with you about Carl.

While I didn't care much for Shane, I'm not sure how I feel about him being gone.

I love Rick and Daryl the most.

Dale should've lived a lot longer. They altered when his character died because Jeffrey DeMunn had issues about AMC firing Frank Darabont from the show. Basically, he asked to be written out early.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, what? Who is Frank and why was he fired? And I sorta like that he asked to be written out but still.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
True that. Killing off two main characters like that is pretty ballsy. And also kind of awesome.

Yeah, same here. I'm not sad about him being gone but it's still kinda odd.

Erm. Daryl is Norman?

[identity profile] ames1010.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, Daryl is Norman. I like that soft spot we saw when Sophia was missing and how he searched for her.

Who are your faves?

[identity profile] ames1010.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, I had no idea!

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Dale was my favourite. I don't really have strong feelings for anyone else. I do like Daryl but I'm not sure if it's all because I *like* Daryl or if it's just because I enjoy Norman.

Frank Darabont was the original showrunner, executive producer and the one who adapted the comic for television. They have never said the reasons for his firing from AMC, but I gather it wasn't above board on AMC's side. Glen Mazzara, the current EP and showrunner, won't discuss it. But he has said Darabont was involved with episode production until 2x08. Most of the people who left the show last season was a result of Darabont's dismissal.

Dale and Andrea were actually supposed to have had a romantic relationship and it was intended to be done on the show, too. I was reviewing some season one eps yesterday and it's very clear they were setting that up in the last two eps. It was even discussed in an interview Laurie Holden (Andrea) gave towards the end of S1, she confirmed they were going to do it. Mazzara has to let on like it was planned for Dale to go now, so he's telling this story that it was always their intention to do it.

DeMunn, from what I understand, asked to be written off the series because of his issues with how Darabont was treated by AMC. Darabont and DeMunn are very good - and long time - friends. Since Dale eventually died in the comics, yet MUCH MUCH later, they figured they'd move it up and add in another surprise for the comics fans, I guess.

Shane was actually sort of opposite. Bernthal also wasn't happy with Darabont's firing, but his character lived on MUCH longer than he did in the comic. So I was expecting Shane to eventually go, just not after THIS LONG, as it's very important to the development of Rick's character.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Well, damn.

I was actually beginning to understand Shane (protecting Lori and Carl, etc.), but in a way, I'm glad they killed him off just so we get more character development from Rick. I loved his reaction to killing Shane. You can tell he's gonna be a different man/leader after having to murder his best friend who was going to murder him too.

I also liked Glenn's moment with Dale's RV :(

It'd be interesting to see if they're going to introduce characters from Randall's camp esp. now that they've made room for more characters!

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2012-03-14 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
THIS.

I just have one small question. Who is Randall?

[identity profile] overstreets.livejournal.com 2012-03-14 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe we're supposed to be confused as to how Shane turned into a walker after Rick killed him. Because he definitely did not get bitten. And same with Randall (the guy they saved that Shane ended up killing in the woods). He died when Shane snapped his neck, not from a zombie bite. I'm assuming this is going to be a ~mystery~ for season three or something.

Oh and I agree about Carl, I don't like him at all. Or Lori, either. And while I do like Rick a lot, I hate that he's related to those two. It makes me like him less just by being a part of that family.

I really want to see more of Glenn, Daryl, and Andrea, and I hope that they get better storylines now that The Neverending Circle of Rick/Shane Angst Over Lori is over.

Randall was the guy they captured from the other camp.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2012-03-16 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe Shane had sex with a zombie. :p

ps. I don't like Lori either. And I'm with you on the thinking less of Rick because he's related to Lori and Carl.
