Things That Were Okay:
+Dean's little boy hair
+Bobby
+Crowley

Things I Did Not Care For:
+EVERYTHING ELSE

This show fills me with such rage.

I know the show has little to no budget but couldn't they try and show that Sam's hell was, I don't know ... Hellish?

Ugh.

Dean and Bobby: Hey, Sammy? How you doing, pal?
Sam: Couldn't be better.

Bobby: Psst, Dean. Psst. Do you believe, Sam? I'm not sure that I do.
Dean: Yeah ... Well, no.
Bobby: Shouldn't we do something? I dunno. Talk to him or something?
Dean: Hahah. Fuck that guy.
Bobby: ...
Dean: Ehh, what good did talking ever do? He says he's fine. Let's go with that.

Sam: Hey, what's up, ya'll?
Dean and Bobby: Oh. Uh. Hi! Still good?
Sam: Can't complain. Literally.

Death: How are you liking those hallucinations? Pretty cool, right?
Sam: Oh, shit. Thought we might keep that on the dl.
Death: My bad.

Dean: Really, Sam? You didn't think to tell me about the hallucinations?
Sam: ...
Dean: C'mon!
Sam: Were you not in the earlier scene?
Dean: Oh, right.

I don't even know how to properly express how much the whole Castiel "he's our friend! Let's help him even though he screwed us over and played us from the beginning and wants to destroy the world" pisses me off. I was so full of burning rage at the end there.

Maybe if there hadn't been a Ruby, I wouldn't feel this way. But there was. And I do.

Now, I know that Ruby wasn't Dean's friend. But then, I don't really think that Castiel and Sam are all that close.

And I know that Ruby was a demon. And Castiel is an angel.

However. However.

I feel that Ruby helped them out just as much, if not more than Castiel has.

Yes, she had her reasons for doing so. But then, so did Castiel. And as I've mentioned before without Castiel Ruby wouldn't have gotten anywhere in her game plan.

And, I don't know. It just really fucking bothers me that they can kill Ruby without any thought and not feel badly but they have to help save Castiel when both angel and demon fucked them over.

Why is he so special? No, seriously. Why?

* * *

Evil!Castiel looks like he might be slightly interesting for a bit. Maybe he'll be one of those vain villains and invest in some lip balm.

* * *

Next week's promo looked pretty Sam centric. So, my guess is it'll focus on Sam for maybe 12 minutes.

Lip balm.
Dean's hair.

This are two of the things that stuck out the most about this episode.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
I watch 98% for Jared. Because he's super pretty. And 2% because I have this hope, that one day it'll be better. be sort of how it was in the beginning.

Because yes, I'm so bitter about the whole fucking double standard thing.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
How Misha's lips don't bother him, is a mystery to me. I often times, twitch and get teary eyed in a freaked out 'OH GOD. I NEED LIP BALM NOW' sort of way when they do close ups on his lips. I realize I have issues but still.

[identity profile] sevenandthree.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I liked it a lot. I didn't have any issues with it. I'm interested to see where it goes.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
I imagine, I'll be one of a very few who had issues with the show. :)

But I am interested to see where it goes.

I liked it. I liked the whole thing. Ok, I don't like Sammy's face on fire cuz it's a sucky effect.

I cannot put into words how much I love Death. He is fantastic! Even when he's really pissed, he's completely in control. I think I could watch a whole show about him.

I liked seeing Lucifer again. MP is so good. And they fixed his face so he's pretty again! I think he's been drinking a lot of beer in the cage though cuz he seems to have a little belly now.

I love crazy Leviathon (sp?)Cas. Misha does crazy like a pro. He played three different characters tonight and I think he pulled it off really well. Yes, I do often want to give him some Chapstick but hey, nobody is perfect.

I know you have never been a Castiel fan but I have always had a soft spot for him. I think that might have a lot to do with our differing views on show right now.

All in all, good season opener. Looking forward to seeing where they go with this.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Death was my favourite in this episode, I really like the actor. I loved him on Once a Thief.

And it was really nice seeing Mark Pellegrino.

I hope that ExtraEvilCastiel is going to be as much fun as he looked like he might be.

[identity profile] lfg1986.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
I actually quite liked it, which surprised me very much. I had very low expectations, but I think it was one of the stronger episodes in a while, at least imo.

I love love LOVE Death, and also Mark Pellegrino is so amazing as Lucifer, it was fantastic to see him again. And yay for the whole Sam-wall-breaking thing actually being addressed! I was afraid they would gloss over it like they usually do with anything Sam-related.

But I will say that I completely agree with you about Castiel. I've been annoyed for a long time about just how much he can get away with and no one condemns him for it. I was honestly surprised when Dean tried to get Death to outright kill him, because usually he's the one bending over backward to make excuses for him. I'm looking forward to a Cas-less show coming up pretty soon. I'm honestly just over him and want my boys back (no offense to Misha).

[identity profile] cherrymmm.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
If you will recall, Death was also a dealer of rare occult objects on Lost Girl. Don't know the actor's name but he will always be Death to me. ;)

Julian Richings.

And yes. Yes, he was. I had forgotten about that.

[identity profile] apey1013.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
That 2% can be such a bitch, can't it?

(And y'know, I was never a Ruby fan but I DO feel indignant on her character's part for that really obvious double standard)

[identity profile] framedhim.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with your dialogue bits up there. Dean has a lot of nerve doing the 'really' bit when his version of talking about things (Hell) is clinking tumblers of drink.

And Sam hasn't learned a damn thing if he's going about lying, again. The writer's of Show talk about arc changes, the brothers changing but, for me, they refuse to allow their characters to grow. I hope this season, they sit/stand/drive/fight-scene them in one place and force them to talk. I don't want schmoop, but acknowledgement would be nice.

I'm a Cas fence-sitter, i.e. depends on which episode I'm watching. I can usually count on trash talking my t.v. (like a loon) whenever he's interacting w/ Sam.

Sam backing Cas. I see this as Sam's own need for redemption, for forgiveness. A been there, done that, still deseperately seeking approval. That maybe he can find solace in giving this to Cas. Or, I'm crazy talking, ha.

Dean's hair. Me, the entire episode: Oh look, it's Jensen.
Both actor/character are gorgeous but I like them seperate. It's a weird me thing.

I liked it as a whole, but feel that the writers are getting some sort of sick thrill out of keeping the main characters stagnant. Sorry for this being so long.

[identity profile] thefrozenheart.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Death so much, I hope we can see him more in this season!
It was lovely to see Mark P. again, he's is amazing as Lucifer!

I liked the episode, but I was expecting more... I usually like Castiel, but I think that in the last season the writers lost their focus and did such a mess with this character that he lost his "identity"...

I think the Leviathon (?!) can be fun and scary, I'm just really hoping for a very different type of monster, you know?

[identity profile] punnky-kitty.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
You know my emotional rollercoaster with the show, and last night didn't really help. I had NO idea what was going on.

I think the biggest problem is that they're writing the show in singular actions now, if that makes sense. Like.. earlier in the show, it was so quality because they plotted out a story and characters that worked to make one whole, satisfying experience.

Now, from what I saw last night, they keep banking on one or two actors/characters to be really great, playing into fannish stuff, and saying 'fuck the rest'. I REALLY don't understand this Dean. I don't like Sam, who seems like an empty character now. I really wish Castiel had stayed dead. (Though crazy!Beastiel is interesting.)

Huge bitch.

[identity profile] goonies-nsd.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for the Ruby and Castiel comparison. I don't know HOW, but I never really put that together.

[identity profile] goonies-nsd.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
BEASTIEL! *giggle*

[identity profile] overstreets.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
I believe the answer to why Castiel gets to be saved and why he is So Super Special is: FAAAAAANSERVICE! Except Castiel sucks, and Castiel subfandom probably sucks too.

Also, I always enjoy your reviews.

[identity profile] agt-league.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
Don't watch this show anymore but I'm still gonna read your reviews cause I think they're awesome. :D

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I think a lot of people enjoyed it.

Julian (Death) and Mark should be around more. Maybe they should have a show together.

That is true, about Sam and his wall ... just. I wish they showed more how much he was suffering.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking a little bit about how Dean didn't talk about his time in Hell and just drank the pain away but when Sam overheard Dean and Bobby talking they basically said, "He can't complain." Flat out. So, even if he wanted to talk about it, I got the impression that they'd be all, 'Tough titties, kid. Buck up.'

I like your idea that Sam backing Castiel is about Sam's redemption but I'm not sure the show would ever do something like that.

Hahah. Yes. His hair was very Jensen-ish.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm hoping Castiel as a demon will be interesting and fun. And then I hope he's defeated and we can be rid of him for good.

I'd be quite pleased if we saw more Death.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I still like Sam. But I do hope that one day he becomes a character again (or even just a character) and not something for Dean to react to.

And that does make sense.

Sometimes I wish I could quit this show.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. You are quite welcome. I need for the show to do an M. Night Shyamalan to show that Castiel's been a motherfucker since the beginning.

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true. Very true.

Yay, thanks!

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I hope you can get a feel for just how great the episodes are from my choice of words.

[identity profile] agt-league.livejournal.com 2011-09-26 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
LOL. <3

[identity profile] nikibee.livejournal.com 2011-09-27 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Sam: Were you not in the earlier scene?

LOLOL I thought the same thing! Dean was all shocked and surprised that Sam wasn't doing ok WHEN HE HAD ADMITTED EARLIER THAT HE KNEW SAM WASN'T OK AND WAS JUST GOING TO LEAVE IT ALONE.

I never thought of the Ruby-Castiel comparison, good point! Honestly, I think it's because Castiel is a much more popular character and has more fans. Plus he was a main character for a while, whereas Ruby was always just a guest star (I think, please correct me if I'm wrong).

[identity profile] certainthings.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it most likely is because Castiel/Misha is a lot more popular with the fans. Which makes me sad. I mean, not that he is more popular, people are going to like who they like. Just. That if Show got rid of Ruby because the majority of fans didn't care for her ... Well. Boo.

[identity profile] nikibee.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm not saying it's right but that seems most likely. Part of me hates it, but the other part of me honestly does like Castiel better and wants more of him and didn't like Ruby and is glad she's gone so I feel like a hypocrite. =/
