Fuck you Acuvue

There is a commercial for Acuvue contact lenses that fills me with a burning rage every time I see it.

There's a pretty, in a plain simple sort of way, blonde teenage girl and she's wearing glasses. She's standing in a school hallway. Her voice over says, "One day I'll have the guts to tell him hi." (or something like that)

AND THEN Narrator Voice Over says, "And that day is today." Then the commercial shows the girl getting contact lenses.

.... RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWR.

In movies when they say/show that girl is unpretty because she has a ponytail and glasses it's silly and ridiculous. But to use it to sell your stupid ass contact lenses? That is rage inducing.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. Are we back in the not-so-long-ago days when glasses were considered hideously unattractive and something to be ashamed of?? WHAT IS THIS SHIT.

I hate this commercial. A LOT.

I do not know but it pisses me off in ways that I cannot properly articulate whenever I see it.

It makes me really sad and angry when people equate unattractiveness with having glasses. And it greatly angers me that a commercial is perpetuating that stereotype once again.

To be honest, some people look BETTER with glasses. Like, they could be relatively good-looking without specs, but if they put some frames on? Ooohhhh yeeeeeaaaaaaah.

Additionally, it kind of makes me sad when certain actors/celebs decide to get correct surgery just because they don't want to wear glasses anymore... because they looked really good with them.

HELL YEAH! If Matt Bomer ever does? It will be a sad day. Even sadder than when Jensen did it. Stupid Jensen.

Also, I just have a ~thing~ for people who wear glasses. So I'm biased like that. hehe

I saw pics of Matt at some premiere and he was HOLDING HIS GLASSES. I was like "omg JUST PUT THEM ONNNNNN". I don't even watch White Collar, but I'd cry if he got rid of the glasses permanently. I may've cried a single (or a couple) tears when I heard Jensen had it done. Jensen is stupid. Someone should let him know that we don't approve of him no longer indulging us.

As someone who has had asthma since infancy and glasses since the fifth grade I can tell you that this is just the tip of my rage-inducing iceberg when it comes to Hollywood/ads.

NO, glasses do not mean "unattractive." Hell, sometimes I find people hotter with glasses.

NO, asthma isn't just something "nerds/losers" have that can be done away with once you get "cool." It kinda sticks around regardless of who you hang out with/how hot you are. It's a medical condition, assholes.

That is a stupid ad.

I honestly wonder if they are aware of what message they are sending. I'm sure that deep down they are aiming for a "confidence" message but they are failing. Hard.

Know what's the worst part? Girls see that and believe it. Every time women's equality takes one step forward, society/media takes it two steps back.

Don't you know? Glasses automatically make you into some sort of twisted freak beast. If someone with glasses makes direct eye contact with you, you turn to stone.

It is also extremely sad how much air time this ad is getting.

I choose to wear contacts instead of glasses b/c I hate my frames and I'm too cheap to buy new ones. I'm hoping to get new ones soon (which you know) and then I shall wear them more. (But not on sunny days, cause I need sunglasses!)

That's a specific point in the movie "Not Another Teen Movie" that I feel applies here. The whole clip/movie is pretty good.
